xenon head lights

Featured Replies

hi all. i have just purchased a 03 octavia L & K estate with factory fitted xenons. ive had a look at them yesterday as the cast from the lights is poor can hardly see up the road with 2 distinct patterns on the road. the N/S head light unit self levels when you turn on the ignition but not the O/S unit, hence the 2 light patterns on the road. ive checked the fuse for O/S dip headlight which i think should also control the self leveling but that is ok (although the N/S unit still self levels when fuse is removed, fuse no. 20 i think from memory, but the O/S dip stops working). the car came with a new mot when brought it, but i would presume that if O/S light not leveling it should have been a fail.

anybody any ideas, or know if the motors have individual fuses???

any help would be appreciated

cheers

I think the lights only fail the MOT if they're too high. I got my Felly back from an MOT after the headlights had been adjusted because of dazzle.........the beam from the fogs went further than the 'adjusted' beam. :S

I've just had to replace the levelling link rod on mine thats attached to the NSF wishbone via a bracket off the ARB link rod. One of the ball joints was rusted solid, the other end had popped out of the levelling device attached to the chasis rail.

Put full left hand lock on the steering and look at the wishbone. £38 from Skoda and on back order.

the level sensor though doesnt control one headlight, does both.

sounds like the motor has either given up or come off, see if the unit is loose inside.

this quite often happens when people adjust them without diag equipment plugged in

cheers guys, i will have a look and see if anything is stuck or come off.

silly question is the motor inside the headlight unit and can i just take the back off, ive never had xenons before and a bit wary of taking thing apart. if they come apart like units with normal bulbs then i will have a go and see if motor is knackered or lost links.

if motor is knackered then is that replaceable or would it be a new headlight unit??

cheers again

A nice chap on here has gone to the trouble of a how to change your side light bulbs with pics that show the inside of the headlight units.

Headlamp is pretty easy to pop out, two screws up top, one on the inside and one behind the indicator and it slides forward and tips up over the washer jet.

cheers again
