CRX del sol Vs. modded 4x4(similar to StuartJ's)

Featured Replies

been getting grief from someone saying that his crx will kill skoda's as they are rubbish. would the above octavia and maybe mine after jabbafacation win or be close?

Well Shrapnel does tend to make a mess of things, so if it blew up then I reckon it could kill it aye.

From my 4x4 days and apr which was as quick as the jabba equiv, a good guide, see what he thinks about a 330d.

Reason being, a lightly tuned 4x4 can easily out do one, so long as your not caught napping.

No idea what the cdr del sol is though, so he might get to the supermarket and have a smoke before you get there...make it a very damp night and you'l lgain some traction marks ;)

which CRX del sol? there are a fe engines.. a well driven 160bhp vtec twin cam one would muller a std 4x4 octy.. (but what wouldnt in 150hp form) if it was remapped it would be closer. if it was remapped and susp done the CRX would be a dot in rear view mirror.

pretty much what you said paul, a 160bhp vtec crx Vs a 4x4 with around 250bhp and uprated suspension

plain bhp figures mean squat... your talking like a Fabia driver.....

its power to weight that matters.. and the CRX would be much lighter thus the gap will be v narrow unless the 4x4 is mapped / uprated in susp dept.

250hp?

Thats going some bengie...you have to factor upto 20% loss for the haldex and 220ish maxes out the k03 blowers.

The air and zaust add maybe 15 at the very very most.

I don't know about you, but if you said it's only got about 220 thats got to be better than 250, also covers you in case you lost ;)

A real 250 figure is up with the K04 and injector change. You will have the advantage of traction, but weight will be a killer.

just going on figures that stuart got colin, i know all figures can be questionable.

soon my 4x4 should gain FMIC, boost controller, CAI, blueflame exhaust and re-map so hopefully will get a nice result.

I'd personally budget for a new blower aswell at some point as insurance...chances are you will be running higher boost than Tavia4x4's (read 222) and the sight of his k03 was scary when removed. I'm half tempted to look at my RS's turbo, since it's on 53k now.

I know and I'm not going into figures, just encouraging you to take the low road ;)

After all mine is only a 1.4 so I'm not going to pull the skin of mr pudding am I :)

taken on board but luckily my turbo has only done about 4k miles i think, it was replaced under warranty before i bought the car

who's got a crx then?? some other OBS monkey? :D

nope, some noob on another forum

did someone say 220 max from a Ko3s? james would disagree i think. i know a lot more work has probably been done but does go to show whats capable

edit: not sure if that includes NOS

  • Administrators

hehe I thought that might come back up....

Capable and sustainable, two different issues over 50k miles...;)

I don't really want to get into the what turbo can or cannot do as it has been covered a lot of times and sadly never ends well :( You will know what your car can do when you put it on a track...open road testing is just not accurate, if you raced me you'd win, every time.

IIRC thats' with a shot of 100nos, previously read 279 or 289 on a 100shot during testing, although and James will no doubt correct me, I'm not sure that a 100 shot of nos actually gives you a 100 bhp boost, except in the movies.

Still impresive I agree and a very valued experiment.

Also as somebody has mentioned the 400+ scoobies, are tuned to get that figure, put em on the open road and well many a 200ish sccob could keep up with them owing to such a narrow band of power and huge lag. Similar reasons why x-country the smaller k0's can keep up with the bigger scobies, they have so much lag your all over them. So unless you have a very long stretch of road, they are typically not performing at the optimum...of course a good driver could wipe the floor with less power.

Eg your roundabout, leon might of got a better line / less deflection in the side walls. :)

And yes it's capable of munching itself somewhere in the 250/250+ region
