DRL wiring

Featured Replies

Has anybody successfully used LEDs in place of the P21Ws in the DRLs on the elegance model? I have been unable to make error corrected LEDs or normal LEDs + ballast resistor work (not recommended for constantly on use as they get bloody hot!). As the SM LEDs are polarity sensitive it struck me that maybe the connections in the holder are reversed. It wouldn't make any difference to a filament type bulb and as the connector is only fixable one way due to the shape of plug onto the bulb holder it is not possible to test it the other way.

Thanks in advance

Got the same problem on my Monte, decided to leave standard bulbs in , just in case reversing the connection wires voids the warranty. I tested my leds on a 12v supply and they do work so it is deffo how they are wired in the holder.

Do some tests

Get a circuit tester and connect to earth.

Remove DRL P21w switch on DRL.

Insert the probe of the tester into the centre of the bulb holder.

If probe lights then that is positive feed and DRL wired correctly.

If probe does not light then touch probe against other terminal of bulb holder.

Check that the centre connection of the LED is also the positive feed.

From this you should be able to work out what the conne4ction are and make any adjustements.

Good luck.

My LEDs p21w works fine no problems from HQ lighting from eBay no issues no errors at all ;) also my w5w LEDs are in the sidelights perfecto ;)

Yes, see pics. Run nice and cool as well. From HQ Auto Lighting.
