Water "leak" from the boot

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have problems after heavy rain, that when I open the boot water flows in to the car. What I can see is that water comes out from the lock mechanism on the boot so I get loads of water in my head when I open the lid :) It also comes water from the inner part of the boot. The water doesnt flow down on the side outside the rubber seal, but all water ends up on the rollo or the floor. The car is not leaking when all doors/lid is closed, but this happens when I open the boot. I had it checked up where I bought the car, but they said nothing was wrong and they couldnt do anything about it! Anyone had the same problem?

Regards,

Fredrik, Norway

Make sure the boot lid is fully dried out, then with a watering can or hose run water over the seal where the rear wiper enters the rear screen, if water is entering here it will show up in two places, 1/ when you open the boot you will see a water trail appear on the inside of the rear screen, also if the leak is bad it will also come out of the lock. If this does not show any leak, 2/ run the water round the outside of the boot seal for a reasonable time, if this shows up the leak, try the following, bit drastic and involves removing the inside boot panel, sit in boot with a good light, have an assistant run water round the boot seal and you should then see where the water is entering.

This does take time and dealers do not like this sort of job.

If you have the panoramic roof there is a known problem with the drain tubes but I don't think water enters the boot lid from this.

I had a small leak on my Superb Estate which I fixed myself, after rain or washing the car on opening the boot I had drips of water forming on the inside of the rear screen and dripping into the boot, this was the rear wiper seal, on gripping the rear wiper and washer unit it was very loose, just a little tightening of the nut cured this and I have had no trace of water into the boot since.

My problem is not that water comes in when the lid is closed. The water comes in when I open the lid. It seems like the construction and shape of the lid doesnt handel mutch water. It doesnt drain the water to the side and down when opened, but drips heavily in to det boot.
