2001 (X) Stereo removal

Featured Replies

I have searched the forums and found several old threads on this, but I need some clarification. Before anyone suggests, I have already tried the credit card trick but I just couldn't get it to budge. And I don't have a junior hacksaw handy to try.

I understand most Fabias require Kenwood keys, PC5-107-h. I've found some sets on ebay:

but they both say for post 2004 model Fabias.

These ones (which don't specifically state Fabia) say for pre-2001: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kenwood-Car-Stereo-Radio-Removal-Keys-Tools-NEW-PC5-107-/260740152113?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3cb552fb31#ht_724wt_698

And these say post-2001: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC5-107-Kenwood-2001-Onwards-Stereo-Release-Keys-/160388529896?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2557e6bee8#ht_2017wt_989

but they all look identical.

Then there's these which say they are compatible with all Fabia models: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-FABIA-CD-RADIO-STEREO-REMOVAL-KEYS-PAIR-PC5-93-/260722419015?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3cb4446547#ht_878wt_698

but I'm certain that when I went into Halfords to see if they would remove it for me the guy tried a set that looked like those (along with every VW and Audi set he had) but they didn't fit. So I'm completely stumped as to what I need.

I also went to a Skoda dealership and they said they had no keys to take it out for me.

Just to clarify, it's and X plate (2001) Fabia Classic.

Thanks for any help.

Well, they are lying. How could they not have a set??

Bet they'd have found them quick enough for half an hours labour :dull:

What a crock.

I've tried kenwood keys and they can bend easily and I've yet to manage

to get a fabia stereo out using them.

I tend to favour a pair of blades from an electric planer.

Watch it, they are very sharp. Wrap some insulating tape around the

ends you are holding. poke em in until you hear/feel a click

and then try and get it out without physically using them to pull the

radio out as this un-locates them again. I usually pop

a small screwdriver just behind the bottom of the HU and persuade

it out from there.

Good luck.

Just seen you're in Kent.

If you can be @rsed to drive to Dagenham this evening.

I'll do it for you

I thought it odd myself, and shocked Halfords were more willing to help free of charge.

Cheers for the offer, but I work evenings/nights, and I'm near Canterbury, so it's a bit of a way just to get the stereo removed :p I may just take the risk on one of the ones from ebay...some say 2001, some 2004, but all look identical. It's only a quid lost if they don't fit...then I'll resort to harassing friends for blades or something
