loud turbo when i boot it

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. Picked up my octavia vrs yesterday and started to notice that if I put my foot down and give it some the turbo seems very loud.

I don't know if this normal but it makes a loud grunt/whistle sound. It's fine when driving steady and starts fine. I did notice the mpg when driving round town is drastically lower than when on a longer more steady drive...not sure if that is related or not.

Your help is much appreciated, cheers.

MPG is bound to be lower when constantly accel/decell/idle. As for the turbo sound...hard to say. Have you been in another to compare sounds?

Not yet no. I know of one person who has one so ill try get in touch with him. I would expect some noise from it, its just that it seems a lot louder than I expected.

Check the y breather pipe under the engine cover and the 2 under the inlet manifold for splits etc. Both mine were split under the manifold and was alot louder on full throttle than normal.

What air filter is fitted, and does there seem to be any mods?

Cheers mate ill have a look at them. Are they easy to get to?

The 2 under the manifold are fiddly but if you remove the plastic cover and there is a plate bolted to the manifold. Remove that using allen keys and that will give you more access.

The y pipe sits on top of the engine at the right hand side, literally just remove the plastic engine cover and you'll understand what i mean.
