average consumption

Featured Replies

I have a simple question, that someone should be able to answer. How is the average consumption per trip calculated? Is it a measurement of the fuel consumption for the entire trip or for the last few minutes or for the last few km/miles. It seems to change rather rapidly

I may be wrong but believe that the car measures the amount of fuel used & distance travelled. It should therefore be quite accurate. (however it seems to measure quite optimistically - as a rule it tends to calculate the consumption about 10% better than in reality... eg. if it says 44mpg it might actually be 40mpg.

But with regard to how rapidly it changes, this all depends upon how far you travel. If you only travel eg 5 miles every time you accelerate hard of coast up to the lights it will have a big effect. If you have driven a few hundred miles then it will take longer for a change to be made to the average.

So as far as I understand it calculates the total use of fuel on a journey.

I hope that helps

Trip one measures the current journey, Trip 2 since it was rest or up to 100 hours when it resets itself. There is a third trip ie Register, which is used for the range calcuation but I am not sure what logic that uses.

Think it is about 5% optimistic on average.

It is easy to measure the fuel accurately due to the metering pumps being hype accurate capable of accurately down to nanolitres 1x10-9 amounts. Measuring distance is always a bit more difficult.
