I was just wondering in your opinion what is the best suspension set up to go for on a octavia vrs?

Coilovers or springs/shocks?

I've got koni fsd's with eibach pro springs. This is well tried and tested on the vrs. It provides excellent ride quality and good handling. It gives a really good compromise the family car.

Depends what you mean by "best"?

Ride quality, handling, OE replacement, slammed look for shows? Is this for fast road use, motorway cruising, track days etc? What are you aiming to achieve?

As mentioned it all depends what your looking for personally out of the kit and also how low your wanting to go?

Just for cruising about, taking kids to school and stuff, so a set up thats not too stiff, but will lower it enough to look good.

pretty much any coilover or suspension kit that lowers the car will be stiffer than stock, so if you're primarily looking just to lower for looks whilst keeping a good ride then i'd say:

- eibach springs (20mm lower) plus keep your oe shocks is a pretty cheap option. or

- eibachs plus koni's as per the above are frequently recommended on here but make sure you get the later improved fsd version

I had the earlier fsd's and took them off as they were crap, but apparently later models address this.

TBH my car does all the family duties just fine with weitec coilovers, but it IS more firmly damped than stock. For me its a great compromise as the car is much better on a b-road than it was with either OE or the fsd i had.

If possible, get a ride out in some cars fitted with the setups you're looking for. It's the only way you can assess what's right for your needs.

And if you're looking at a spring/damper combo, and looking at FSDs, make 100% sure you're being provided with the revised 4090 version.

Bilstein also offer a matched spring/damper setup that's well regarded, the B12.

I personally started with KW V1s, then switched to the revised FSD with Eibach ProKit springs. That was the right move for me, but others might well have stuck with the V1s because they were happy with the setup. It's all about personal preference :thumbup:

will have a look around, any good sites to buy stuff from? probably go for the fsd's they'll be comfier than coilovers.

I got mine from Awesome as they're local to me.

Koni FSD's are ****e. Nice ride, crap handling IMO.

Coilovers are way better for out and out performance.

I'd have to disagree Harry, least for the latest 4090 revision.

Sure for ultimate handling, a coilover setup is superior - but you'd have to be going some with road driving.

So they list b8s for octavias?

Yes, there is a B12 kit available for the Octy2. Contained within that are the Bilstein B8 dampers.

Yeah, you could use B8s on existing springs - if comfort and a bit more control are the order of the day. I understand they're available separately, from certain suppliers - I'm sure most of the list I had earlier could sort that out.

Likewise, you can also use FSDs with OEM springs too, in fact they were designed with that in mind.

Whole heatedly agree, love my Weitec`s, and would thouroughly recommended them :thumbup:

The Koni FSDs with Eibach Pro springs are an excellent combination. The ride isn't any firmer than standard but a lot less jittery and a lot flatter through the bends. It gives a nice drop too.

Further advice please?

I have an Octavia 2 with 1.8 TSI engine. I recently changed from a Yeti with it's firm ride (far less movement on corners than Octy). I don't like the body movement in this Octy when I move over less than smooth B road surfaces at 80 mph. Must get the control back. The seemingly obvious option is the full B12 pro-kit, but I have read comments elsewhere that these springs are soft? Lowering matters not to me - I like a bit of height in fact for a farm road but can also accept lowering if needs be for the firmer control at speed.

(if someone wants to say 'should have kept the Yeti - main reason for change was boot size and motorway dissatisfaction with it's 1.2 engine).

Would be most grateful for some specific advice for the Octy 1.8 pse.
