Engine idle speed

Featured Replies

My Fabia has started idling about 250rpm more than usual, only seems to do it on starting the engine and after a while subsides. Anyone else had this problem / a solution??

Thanks.

tbh its normal for the engine to idle faster when its warming up, and it gradually gets lower as it warms up

Only started doing it the last couple of weeks and I've had it for over 3 years now...

strange, have you recently had a new coolant temperature sensor fitted perchance?

Afraid not, no. Literally just randomly started doing it. Doesn't happen all the time either...

Blip throttle then pull throttle pedal up with the front of your foot. If it settles to normal idle, throttle position sensor.

Ah, a fine idea. I shall try this and return with results. Thanks!

Been in the car at least 6 times since, wanting to test the accelerator sensor and it hasn't done it again! God how I love intermittent issues! Will post back when it happens.

Mine was variable for a couple of days once after I'd badly stalled it. I thought "it can't REALLY be that delicate can it, that stalling it makes it go wrong?" Luckily it righted itself after that - but it took several journeys.

iv had it for about 6 months all the time

tried the accelator test and it made no difference, MAF and EGR have been replaced in the last 6-8 months, air filter replaced and all piping it connected correctly!

must be ghosts :D

Tried the accelerator test, not that. Really peculiar, must be ghosts!

something has just gone ping in my mind... does it do it after you've turned to full lock in either direction?
