how long for oil to warm up?

Featured Replies

Hello again one and all, I have now got my 1.2 tsi 86 estate (love it) and wondered if there was a rough idea of how long it takes for oil to reach optimum temp? I don't have maxidot (tight) and wondered if oil tends to warm up slower than the coolant and if so does it generally take twice as long or very similar time to the coolant? With no maxidot I only have the blue water icon to judge water temperature.

Also as a side note my old car had the trim level 2 symbol on the boot But there is no se symbol on my new car. Is this normal or should it have on? It does have the tsi badge though.

Thank you guys :-)

I would say twice as long as coolant to get up to temp. On my journey to work travelling at 30-35MPH, 1.5-2.5k RPM it takes 12mins ish to get to 70Deg

Thank you very much for your reply. Does your car have the trio level on the bootlid cos I have no se badge?

New models don't have trim models now, well I don't think so I've the elegance spec and it's only got the tdi in red 105bhp were as lower models have black n red lettering on boot rather than spec

Thank you. The wife is gutted cos our tdi 80 had a red square but the tsi 85 is just black lettering. She wants a red square. :-(

My fabia 1.4 tdi 70 bhp had a 1 on it, until I pulled it off when I caught it with the polishing cloth, although it is a one it's got aircon, leccy windows, I've put door sills covers, side protection strips, all LEDs lights and full engine cover so will be nearer 3 than 1 specc ;)

Seb...you need special wind in the tyres to be a '3' spec!!

Up to twice as long to get the oil to full temp, but it does depend how much load the engine is under at the time too.

The new Fabias don't have any trim level badging at all.

Thank you for clarifying for me :-)
