61 Plate Vrs Petrol DSG Candy White

Featured Replies

Just bought a brand new Vrs DSG in Candy White with Amundsen satnav. I have few questions about the car and stuff if someone could help me with.

The sat nav is amundsen, however I need to know the model of it, if anyone could help that would be great. Check the Manila nothing?

Also I have always been in to modding my cars. As this is my first Vrs what would you guys suggest I upgrade first.

Thanks alot

Shark Performance remap. Best money I spent. You should already have the flappy paddle MFSW.

+1

Revo Remap

Revo Remap

On my cars I normally aim to do chassis first, then more power.

I have a tweaked shark stage 1 map on my car (+STS) and I think its great, but I couldn't tell you if its any better than a REVO as I have no experience of that system.

Stuff I've done to my car is all documented in my ph blog, link below.

Candy White Skoda's are very cool BTW! Petrol or Derv?

That's a reasonable point above. My mate has revo on his vrs without the suspension modifications that i have and it sometimes struggles to cope with the power. I had my remap and suspension done together on the second day I had it from new.

Can you explain further how it struggles to cope with the power?

It rolls too much in cornering, traction in first and second is a problem due to transfer of weight, it jitters about under heavy acceleration, and dips under heavy breaking. Firmer suspension goes a long way to resolving this. My mate has identical car with identical remap only difference is he has stock suspension so we've debated this one a fair bit and those are the conclusions.

Good info. What suspension do you have?

I've got Koni FSD dampers and Eibach pro springs. Perfect combination for a great ride, decent handling and a nice drop.

Could you tell me if this suspension mod would be also ok for an Octavia 1.8 TSI? Have come from the firmer riding Yeti back to the softer Octy and would like to stiffen things up a bit?

Also, who can do these mods and what sort of cost is one looking at?

Also, does it affect insurance?

Furthermore, would it then be appropriate and possible to get the 1.8's power tweaked also? If so, where? (bear in mind I have the SE Plus trim and the engine is tuned down by Skoda from 160 to 152 horsepower on this ltd edition for some inexplicable reason)

Thanks.

Yes it would be ok providing you get the correct parts as they will be designed for specific models based largely on their weight.

Yes it will affect your insurance, in terms of how only your insurer can say.

For a power tweak you need a remap, do a search for Revo, Shark, AMD, Superchips, Custom Code etc. Some of these you need to go to a local agent but certainly Revo, Shark and Superchips can provide self tuning devices too where you download your map onto it, email it to them, and they send you a new map that you upload back to your car.

Many thanks.

It's probably not PC to ask which of the remappers would be recommended, so may I ask if those mentioned have all been used by forum members? Alternatively, perhaps any forum member experienced in doing the remap for the 1.8 TSI might be in touch?

Also, could I ask if the work on the suspension should be done an AD?

No it's quite fine to ask and depending on who you ask you'll get different responses. I'll recommend Revo for the vRS TSI as it's what I have so I know it's very good. Revo are one of the industry leaders and invest heavily in their software development and testing. Others will recommend Shark and will have their own reasons for doing so. Problem is you'll find very few people with experience of different maps on the same car so invariably everyone usually thinks what they have is great because they haven't tried anything else.

What do you mean by AD?

Thank you. By AD I mean "authorised dealer".

Assume you mean Skoda dealer. Not unless you want to pay their labour rates. My advice is take it to an independent specialist, preferably one that focus on VAG. Mine was done at Awesome GTi.

Thank you. Where is Awesome please?

Also, Jonno, in this discussion does 'damper' mean 'shock absorber'?

It's in Manchester. Yes damper is shock absorber.
