Lowering question

Featured Replies

Had my fabia vrs a few days now and really think it sits too high, what lowering springs would people recommended, only ones on eBay are eibach pro-kit ones that only lower 20mm front an rear, but I'm not sure that would be enough, wat do u lot think?

Also are the eibach ones the Škoda approved, they are £198.99 on eBay. I've seen somewhere that Škoda charge that but that's for fitting also is that right?

It's a contentious issue....:dull: Nobody has come up with hard evidence either way. In my opinion, play on the side of caution and treat them as a mod.

If you are simply looking for lowering, then springs are the cheapest. As you point out, they won't lower the car that much though and ride comfort may get worse due the fact the dampers haven't been changed to compensate.

If you're looking for 30mm or more, then coilovers are your only option for now. Most people go for 40mm minimum as that brings the car down quite well but leaves a good gap to prevent rubbing etc. Others have gone for 55-60mm though. Each to their own.

Take a tape measure out and have a look to give yourself an idea

Hope that helps :)

Cheers mate, on eBay there are some springs an shocks, weitec ones an they are £350, for 30mm drop. But I think if I could get springs that give a 30mm drop I'd try them, but like you say I don't want the ride to be horrible, do you think it would be that bad?

Actually I've found some coilovers on dpm, they are JOM? I've never heard of them. At £275 they're a bargain but are they gunna be rubbish, I've never had coilovers before, do they have to be set up properly or could I just mess around raising and lowering? Will all the geometry be out if I have these fitted?

Sorry for all the questions :)

Really depends what you are after and how much you have to spend.

If you are on a tight budget then go for just springs but this will be the most minimal option.

If you have a bit more money to play with then the options will be spring and damper kit or coilovers. Now you have to decide what you really want and/or need, most people don't actually need coilover suspension, they buy it to get the car as low as possible. If you want a sensible drop with good handling then I'd say go for a spring and damper kit, it will be cheaper than buying a "decent" coilover kit and with the difference from coilovers you can treat yourself to a rear ARB!

The JOM option will probably be ok, a lot of the golf boys have them but with everything, you will get what you pay for (obviously this is only my opinion).

Ive had a shot of a couple cars on JOMs coilovers, personally... i would never buy them.

You know you get what you pay for, the joms do the adjustable ride height but nothing more, ride will be terrible.

We have a special on the Weitec's at the moment, just give me a call if you want any info on them.

Thanks for the replies, all I'm after really is a 30mm drop, not going to be racing on a track so don't need anything special, definitely want to go for the ARB too, is this an easy fit or a garage job?

So will 30mm lowering springs alone be like riding round with no suspension at all, coz as standard I think it's about as bumpy as I want to go

To be honest mate you've paid a lot of money for this new car, why not pay a little extra and have the full setup, means that it will work a lot better :)

I'd go for the thread below

Weitec Ultra GT Kit - Fabia VRS
. If your not going to be taking it on the track or want to get into the street modding scene and you only want to drop 30mm, these seems perfect and a great price with the 25quid off!! You will then have your complete original suspension setup if you want to go back to standard.

Cheers! I'll see I I can afford it after the TMC tuning and ARB, the list gets longer lol.

Is fitting the weitec set up a garage job, or do I not need the spring compressors because it a full kit, or do you still need them, never done this before as u can see :)

I will have my KW variant 2's fitted on Wednesday so will post some pictures of before and after and will also go for a drive on the night to be able to provide an initial report of my findings.

I have a thread already started HERE that you can follow.

Budget coilovers are a false economy.

You'd be mental to put them on a cheap car, let alone a VRS.

If you want to fit coilovers, Bilstein, KW, H&R, Ohlins... etc etc, not some 200 quid no name ones which will have hillariously varying damping rates across each corner that will hugely degrade ride quality and handling.

Do it properly or not at all.

Look forward to the pics of the kw's

I thought that about the cheap coilovers, why would kw be £1k an them £250 lol.

Would you just go for 30mm drop on the standard shocks?

Like mentioned before, you get what you pay for.

The materials used, the quality of manufacture, the development into the product, customer service and back up all contribute to the cost of engineered items!

I am an advocate of never go for the cheapest and don't expect massive improvements from the top of the range compared to the 2nd from top!

I bought the KW's for a number of reasons... the stainless bodies on the front struts, the finish of the spring seats, the proven track record of KW products on other platforms and at motorsport level.

I hope to find the car is much more composed with mid corner balance pinned down a lot more from both the lower ride height but also the slower damping rates matched to the heavier springs.

Of course proof is in the driving and that is eagerly awaited.

I have a Whiteline rear ARB on order and will get that fitted as soon as it arrives from Austrailia.. not sure yet if I have to mount it on upside down in order to make it work on a European car

Thats why the DPM/Weitec is a great option for you...Cheap, uprated shocks, ride height down 30mm and NOT coilovers...no brainer

Edit - er I'd wait a few weeks and get a review from Confide, as I notice he's bought a set!
