Removing the wingmirror casing alone?

Featured Replies

Umm, how is this done? Doesn't seem logical to me how to do it. One of my wingmirrors I blacked up has started cracking and basically I need to remove the casing to do again, preferably without taking the mirror off the car (or at least remove to take off the casing then refit without a casing until I get the paint job sorted....)

Its very odd as the paint job on the "body" of the mirror, i.e the bit which looks to be flush to the car door has not gone funny, and the paint job was all done at the same time under the same conditions....

The other option is whether anyone has a spare 'leccy wingmirror I could buy from them? ;)

undo 2 torx underneath, pop the glass off and remove the torx behind there too and it'll come off

Aces. I tried getting behind there to clear out the spiders that seem to have nested behind mine. I figured the two on the bottom, but couldn't get any further than that. How does the glass pop off - literally just pulls off with a bit of force?

From memory with the glass, you tilt it up to pointing as high as possible on the button, then (in my case) levered off at the bottom end using a cloth covered flat screwdriver. I believe its easier that way than pointing right down and levering from the top.

BUMP! I have the mirror now so tomorrow I am aiming to do the swap to get the case off. From what I can tell there are two tiny torx inside, probably T20, and two from underneath. I would appreciate any experiences from people who have done this before. The last time I painted the mirror I just had the whole thing off, and masked off the glass....
