Damaged 1.9 TDi Fuel Cooler

Featured Replies

Hello. I've been driving around for a while in my Fabia 1.9TDi Comfort trying to figure out where a faint knocking noise has been coming from. Recently it's been getting louder, so I've searched all over the suspension and the underside of the car and have come across what my Haynes manual describes as the 'Fuel Cooler'. I've been reading some posts on here to find out what it actually does, so I'm up to speed with that now, but there is a problem... the knocking noise is the fuel cooler bouncing off of the underside of the car because one of the mounts has sheared! Is this an expensive part to repair/replace and should I be more than a little bit concerned and rush to get it fixed? It is part of the fuel system after all, so it can't be good! My regular mechanic is on holiday.

Also, once it has been fixed, is there any way that I can protect it to try and prevent the same thing from happening again? It is quite exposed, so I can see how it might get caught on things like big lumps of ice in the winter.

I would just see about getting the current one fixed in place somehow. Maybe with a bit of welding etc?

It's nothing dangerous or anything. Just if it's not cooling the pipes properly the fuel in the tank may get a bit warm after a long drive.

shouldn't affect the cooling part but wombling about could lead to cracking and a fuel leak, just secure as best you can before it turns into a real problem, mastic or glue springs to mind
