Fitting chinese 2din instead of swing unit

Featured Replies

Hello,

This is my first post at briskoda, so please handle gently :)

I am a happy owner with Octavia II facelift 1.2 TSI 2011, factory equipped with swing radio/cd unit.

I would like to swap it for a chinese unit, specifically this one :

Which also appears here :

However, I could not find anywhere whether the golf mkv, tiguan, caddy etc fit the skoda dash exactly.

Will this unit fit ? Where can I find official measurements for comparing Octavia dash opening to VW one ?

Thanks ahead!

Hi mate, im at work so i cant get onto my ebay account but I bought one of these for my car a few months ago from a UK importer. Priced around £310 and it looks TOTALLY OEM, logos, lights, general look & feel of it. Only difference is the software is a bit chinese-y but the functionality is second to none.

The seller was R118*** something, but cant think off the top of my head and he was a big importer of these things. Look up 'Skoda DVD SAT NAV TV' on ebay and you might recognise the name. Alternatively drop me a PM and when im home ill look it all out for you. :)

Please don't do it!

There are loads of posts regarding this type of unit; "Nasty" springs to mind!

I saw one trial fitted and was gobsmacked at how poor the build quality was, not to mention the awful menuing system with differing fonts and sizes. The sound quality was awful too - lacking just about every part of the audio spectrum and had no finess whatsoever. One has to ask what you do about map update as well?

Why not save your hard earned wonga for a bit longer and get a Columbus (if you want Nav) and a Bolero if you don't. Bolero's are available for similar money and would wipe the floor with the Chinese junk.

Both of the Skoda units will integrate properly with your vehicle and as most are made by Siemens or other reputable companies, the quality is on a different planet!

There is loads of support for the Columbus / Bolero on these and other forums but you would struggle to get anything for those units you spotted.

I liked feature number nine on the link - 'Gold -wide color box can prevent equipment"s oxidation and cooking the heat fast. '

If the kit lives up to the quality of the copy then you would be in trouble.

Just go for a Columbus, a little more but you'll get full support from everyone on here who's done the same.

Thanks for the replies.

The quality of the chinese replicas is indeed in question, but that's a question of "bang for buck", the Columbus/Bolero are overpriced to my opinion if you consider their features - even if some of the chinease features might die quite fast. The local dealer here even offers Zenec, RoadRover and FlyAudio units fitted at delivery.

I had a look at a friend's Golf Mk VI equipped with t bolero just now, and the dimensions look different - it's taller and narrower, the swing is less rectangular, so I can't understand how the same fascia can fit Octavia and Golf, which is actually my initial question.

try used columbus units which have warranty. probably you will get for similar price as cheap chinese ones.

Thanks for the replies.

Thats what I bought (but paid £320 for it) and no regrets at all. System has a few flaws, some quirks to get to know but nothing you cant live with. Sat nav works perfectly, music from SD card, USB works fine. Radio works well, DVD players great, hands free phone is effortless...

I have a Dara O Brian DVD in, 16gb of simpsons, family guy & American Dad. Phone setup for music over bluetooth and a solid sat nav system I update whenever I want. I have used it for 5 months, had it reset on me once and had zero problems with build quality. Makes the m25 on a friday evening a breeze.....

Lets see your Columbus do all that! :D

Go for the Bolero superb sound quality.

Nothing beats Nickleback on full chat and no distortion.
