Smmmmmmmmoking! But not in the way you might think!

Right, SWMBO, aka Mrs Stig's Ferbi vRS seems to be giving out little puffs of smoke on exceleration and during kick down :wonder:

I'm going to get it booked in at the local dealers to be checked out as the last thing I want is to have it blow up! I'm using 5W 30 oil currently, with a view to change to 5W 40. I regularly check the oil level as we know the new Ferbi likes its oil...... ;)

Any ideas would be greatfully received!

I would have thought it would already running on 5w x 40 ?

Hi Richie, what colour is the smoke? If it's blue it's oil being burned. If it's black/grey it's fuel related. I've seen many VRs motors going at full tilt and they all seem to smoke a bit just after gear change.

Sounds a bit like the mk1,VRS ;)

They all do it Richie, mine included , it's fine. You nay even get little sooty deposits on the rear ! Still fine ..,

Car should have 5w 40 in it, but had it confirmed by my dealer for top ups 5w 30 is fine.

I think on the smoking thing as others have said quite a lot do it.

Thanks for the responces so far folks. As long as the engine isn't about to go pop then fine. I've got it booked in any way for a couple of other things..... better safe than sorry.

Lynz's says it must be the way you go round roundabouts :giggle:

Hope it's all fine.

What colour smoke?

Guessing black/grey as its when he boots it. Normal for a rich running turbo'd car?

Quick update.. :smirk:

Had it in the service centre and after a full day there, all is fine. The techie called me at home to confrim a few things and he gave me a run down as to what he intended to to. The main thing is, the car is fine.

It's due its first service soon, so I'll have the oil changed to 5w 40 then.
