Windows 8

Featured Replies

With thanks to jrw, I'm now running the Developer Preview.

First impressions - Metro - I don't like it! But I'm sure it's a case of getting accusmed to it.

Good news though - the desktop lives!

Will post up more/answer questions as I go.

if its anything like the developer preview of 7 then the final version will be very different.

That start button looks like it was drawn in paint

I installed it on a VM. It feels like I need a touch screen to use it properly.

Think I'll wait for an RC to appear....

Yep agreed, feels sluggish and as if it should be on a Phone instead! Expect a proper RC will bring its reward!

Well, it's now died. Won't boot properly and frankly, I can't be bothered to fix it.

Is there usually a lot of difference between these, and an RC then?

Just that the RCs are generally a bit more polished, and closer to the final 'production' spec.

And also usually a bit more stable, and less abusive to hardware emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Would never use a beta or RC to do anything remotely important on though. I'll test it and put it through it's paces, but never with anything that I can't afford to loose.

Thanks, wasn't sure what the differences were really.

Likewise. Windows 7 had died too, so the machine was in the process of being recovered, so I thought I'd give it a go seeings as I was doing that sort of thing anyway.
