Help with 5N0 035 730 D Module

Featured Replies

I received a 5N0 ****D Bluetooth Module unit today to replace the existing unit in my Superb Combi ( mar 10), I believed it was a straight swap, just disconnecting the aerial plug and the multi plug, and fitting new unit.

However I have come up with a problem, when I tried to fit the aerial plug, on my car the item that goes where the aerial should go, is a plug with a small circuit board attached, and is not a wire, joined into the main loom.

The problem seems to be in the new box, there are 2 small plastic pieces that come out of the receiver, (if you imagine a clock, they are at positions 7 and 11, with the main clip at 12.

However on my plug (with circuit board), they are at positions 7 and 1, and as such this stops my plug from connecting to the box.

Could anyone advise me that if I filed down the plastic lip at position 11, and just relied on the other plastic lip and the main connector at position 12, would this make a connection or would it become a problem.

The only other option I can think of, is returning the 5N0 unit for a refund.

Also the box in my car is a metal box, held in place by a frame, however it is the same size as the 5N0 box, and the location of the brackets for the 3 bolts are all in the correct locations.

Any help would be great, as I was looking forward to what this unit has to offer, in regards to new phones.

Thanks,

J.

Being at a loss to know what you where talking about, a part number means very little to most peaple,. I looked up your part number on EKTA the Vag group parts software, it looks like you may have the wrong module for a March 2010 car, If you could forward me a email address I will sen you the parts page drawing and listing, plus correct aerial connector listing.

I just fitted this unit, and you need a new type of antenna 1794_eA.jpg.

Also,do not forget to wire the second audio channel from the bluetooth module to the columbus/bolero.And I think the unit will need to be coded after the install.

Hi Guys,

What unit did you remove to fit the new one?

And, if your using the new unit, for "normal" bluetooth phones, ie standard HFP Bluetooth, then why do you need the new Antenna at all? - It's used only for rSAP connections. - Have you tried it without?

My car was produced in April 2010, so "should" have had the same system fitted as yours, as the 2011 model was not released until late May. This was when they began using a HFP and rSAP module as standard across the Elegance range.

Where the aerial connection is, I have a plug with a small circuit board attached, instead of a cable, I thought that it would not fit, as 1 of the small raised plastic lines on the receiver in the 5N0 unit was in the wrong place, I just filed it down, and plugged my aerial / circuit board in, and I now have it working, SMS displayed on columbus, mfd showing signal strength, etc, etc, and able to pair a number of phones to it as well, I think that they are connected as rsap, as I'm

unable to use phone itself, to make call, when it is connected, but all working

OK.

My original unit was in a metal case, and manafactured by Harman / Becker, and had a metal frame over it to hold it in place, but was the same size as the plastic case of the 5N0.

Where the aerial connection is, I have a plug with a small circuit board attached, instead of a cable,

The little board is a bluetooth antenna for the older metal case bluetooth unit. The new plastic case unit has an internal bluetooth antenna and you need instead a GSM antenna that looks like the picture above. They are not compatible with each other, although as with all things RF, it might work to some extent if you force it on.

I ran into the same problem when I tried to upgrade my bluetooth unit in my Jetta.

The reason is because the old unit did not have RSAP (remote SIM access protocol) capability. The new unit does. RSAP takes over the mobile phone radio functions and uses it's own radio and antenna for communicating with the mobile telephone network. Hence it needs a mobile phone antenna and a bluetooth antenna. The bluetooth antenna is internal. If you use the device in non-RSAP mode (i.e. hands free profile (HFP)) then the GSM antenna does not do anything but if it's not connected your unit will throw a fault code.

If you want, you could probably get a Fakra connector and use a glass mount antenna for better reception.
