equivalent tyres for 16 and 17 inch rims?

Featured Replies

My Vrs has the standard 18's fitted.

If I changed down to 16's or 17's, what size tyres should I be fitting?

I dont want to affect the speedo reading.

Also, I understand the PCD must be 5x112 but what should the ET be?

thanks!

16s: 205/55/16

17s: 225/45/17

ET45-50. That also depends on the width of the wheel being fitted too though. A VAG 16 will typically be a 6.5J, a 17 likely to be 7J.

Original 6.5x16 ET50, original 7.0x17 ET54.

Yes, these are the ETs of the original Skoda wheels.

Your link shows the aftermarket wheels and most of these have different

(mostly smaller) ETs. Doesnt mean that they will fit without rubbing.

For example: most of the 8.0x18 wheels have an ET35 and these will not fit every

Octavia without rubbing. >90% of the Octavias will rub with these wheels.

Absolutely. I wouldn't, and couldn't go down to an ET35 on an 8x18 without some archliner work, and a coilover setup adjusted to suit. Even then there's the possibility of issues under full load, and also with full lock at the front.

For me, my ET42 8x18 Turinis are as low as I'd want to go
