Parking lights burned? NO! My bad!

Featured Replies

Today, coming back from work I noticed my parking lights were not working. Both of them. Normally, when you switch to parking lights, the LEDs go darker and the parking lights light up. In my case, LEDs are doing their thing but nothing else lights up.

I was a bit surprised that they both (left and right) stopped working so I checked their corresponding fuse (no.23). According to the manual, the same fuse controls the light in the glovebox and the boot, but these lights were working fine so I assume its the parking lights bulbs that have failed (both).

Trying to change them however was unsuccessfull. I removed the plastic cap and tried pulling their connector out but they were just too tight. I know for the main headlights you first have to turn them 90 degrees, but for parking lights the manual just says "pull them out". Is it actually so simple? They didnt seem to be able to go anywhere by just pulling straight out. So I want to know, do I have to press somewhere first and then pull?

please check photo

Should I press horizontally (green arrows)?

Vertically? (Blue arrows)

Or just pull straight out? (Yellow arrow!)

Also, can it be something else as well?? I cant go to the dealers until Monday so It would be good if I fixed this during the weekend!

Erm, didnt your dealer tell you that vRS front sidelight bulbs (in the headlight clusters) are NON FUCTIONAL as standard. your DRLs take over the job of sidelights.

However there are a few chaps here that rewired the loom with some relays to enable the original sidelights. But your dealer will say its normal for them not to work.

As I corrected later on my post, its not the side lights I am referring to, but the parking lights. I just cant find how to correct the topic's title also.... I am quite sure I've seen these working!

these bulb types can be a little tight to remove,I find the best way is to just shugggle side to side as pulling outward

I.e brut force and ignorance hee hee

Parking lights/ sidelights are the same if you've got a VRS well they are not connected, the lights you've shown are w5w bulbs they don't work in VRS as the VRS DRLS work as your side/ parking lights

Well now that I recall it, I've never checked myself how all 3 different light scales look like from the front side (outside of the car) so I was assuming they were like my previous cars, ie. little light from front bulbs. So first time I actually checked today I took it something was wrong! False alarm!

Taxi!!

I used parking lights for the first time this week and had complaints about them being too bright.

I agree and will not use them again unless unsafe not to.

I think I'm confused. As far as I have understood, in the 3 selectable scales, the lights work the following way:

1) Lights set to OFF, when the DRLS are working on full brightness, as long as you have the key inside the ignition.

2) Parking lights, when DRLs go a bit darker, nothing else lights up, so this scale is darker than the first one.

3) Headlights on, when DRLS continue to be a bit darker than in the 1st scale, but headlamps are on.

3b) Big lights on, (when you're alone at the road)

So how can your parking lights (DRLs in darker mode) be brighter than no lights at all? (DRLS at full brightness). That I don't get...
