Another Central locking problem!

Featured Replies

I am trying to sort out a problem with the locking in the wife's octavia, please try and get me in the good books!!!!

here goes, If you put the key in the boot everything works perfectly (most of the time) if you use the key in the drivers door, it only locks the drivers door. If you use the lock unlock button on the inside it locks all the doors and then unlocks just the passenger one? :S

I have taken off the drivers door card and checked the control unit at the bottom of the window motor all the connections look good no water present!

Thanks

Richard

either a split in drivers door loom or ccu fault i'd reckon - get vagcom on it and unlock it a few times so it can log the fault

Thanks for the fast response, I'm sure I saw something on here about dodgy soldering joints on the CCU and an explanaition of how to fix it, I can't find it now, might this be worth a try?

Thanks

Richard

It's not the CCU or the loom, as the door lock/unlock switch on the armrest is working for the passenger door and the driver door locks.

As you have checked for corrosion and found nothing, it sounds like a faulty microswitch in the door lock. The PCB in the door lock often suffers from dry joints, so it could be this.

It could also be the door control unit which is an integral part of the window motor.

What car is it? Engine? Year?

I Should also add that the interior light doesn't work on the drivers door.

check the door led is operating normally - you may need to do this when dark so you can see it

if car is unlocked led is totally off

if car is locked led will blink on and off

if car has a fault the led will remain partially lit to some degree

Ok I've checked the drivers door led, this is permanently off, one strange thing that does happy is if the door is open and you operate the lock the interior light comes on when the key is turned all the way to the left, but as soon as the key is realeased from the left it goes off again, I can also here what I guess is the CCU (in the A pillar) clicking when I turn the key in the drivers door.

ccu won't click that will be a relay somewhere - either in door or under steering wheel

if your door led is permanently off you defo have a fault with with ccu/wiring or door regulator - vagcom scan will pick it up

OK having sprayed all lock components in the drivers door with WD40, everything now seems to be working perfectly!!

even the windows are going up and down now when you hold the key in the lock and unlock position.

and the led has started working on the drivers door.

apart from loosening everything up, and suggestions as to what this has repaired?

One of the microswitches had dirty contacts so the controller thought the door was always unlocked.

It wasn't try to unlock the door as a microswitch was telling the controller it was already unlocked.

You wouldn't have got the interior light as it only comes on when the lock goes from locked to unlocked.

You wouldn't have got the flashing LED as it only comes on when the controller thinks the door is locked.

sorry dig up thread from grave but this problem has progressively got worse

all functions on mine work 100% apart from drivers door will not lock using remote or switch on drivers door, and the red door led doesn't light up

everything else works ok (the other 3 doors lock and unlock ok when i try to lock it

is this consistent with the door lock microswitches going?

Yes, or a dry solder joint on the PCB in the lock.

thanks for the reply! gonna try a replacement lock
