Getting bored of the SE

Good work!

Fitting's dead easy, especially as you're obviously route experiencing in removing and refitting to get the Zenec in.

Next question is what your current gateway revision is, although I note that Timmyboy's version is running a modified firmware to avoid the drain issue. I know this was perfectly possible and did work well. Pretty sure you'd get access to more advanced features with the latest gateway though. Would need to look into that further. And Eddie is your man for gateway upgrades (http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/215295-7n0-907-530c-can-gateways/) emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Fitting doesn't concern me, as you say, I've fitted and removed the Zenec with alot of extra wiring :thumbup:

The coding/Canbus etc is where I need to read up. I forgot to pickup my laptop and vcds tonight so won't know what Canbus version I have until I get home from work tomorrow morning but I'm going to make the assumption that as I have a '56 plate that it will be the old version and a new Canbus is required (better safe than sorry). I too noticed that Timmyboy's Columbus was upgraded but as I've never looked into the Columbus before I need todo alot of reading up on the subject.

My current areas of research are

* Canbus fitting/coding

* Regensburg Syndrome

* KUFATEC 2 into 1 (don't use MW so can I fit without this)

* Prices of Columbus surrounds for climate control

* Columbus failure rates

I have seen some newer modelled Columbus units on ebay that come with the surround for £150 more than Timmyboys but they will need me to upgrade the Canbus for certain but I'd get a 12month warranty on an item that cost over £400 therefore insuring my investment for 12months.

Looks like I have a busy night ahead

Matthew

And then you could buy Timmyboy's lovely turbo back exhaust with de-cat section - excellent! emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Good shout Steve!

Don't get too hung up on Regensburg Syndrome. Here's a real life example - I took my cat to the vet on Monday morning, fired up the NAV (this would have been a full boot from cold) and the GPS was fine - started off in the UK.

After the vet, started the navigation to make the return journey and it started off in Regensburg - I pulled into the main road and had just enough time to chuckle at being told my journey included ferry crossings, before it was back in the UK again - under 20 seconds on this occasion I'd say, mostly not at all.

I'm not sure how many versions I'm out of date now but I've got voice control, speed limit display, postcode search etc.

KUFATEC - yes you don't need to fit it, but why not? You could always sell it on for a tenner I suppose.

Surround - the one I bought for my poverty spec manual air con panel was £6.19 from the dealers - I imagine the one you need won't be too different.

Cheers,

Tim.

Tim,

Thanks for the info :thumbup: , I intend to get Maxidot fitted next year and also the BlueTooth module for Handsfree Mobile use so making sure I understand what I buy and when I need it

Well, it looks like I have revision H (providing I'm looking at the right thing :giggle: ) tired :yawn:

CanbusBefore.jpg

Yes, indeed - your CAN gateway is Rev H. Upgrade time :)

Get an AD (or later now) from Eddie. £70 well spent.

Kufatec - as said, just fit it. It's also used for RDS on FM, so you'll get benefits there by using it. Not simply for getting hold of MW frequencies.

I'm going to hold out for Timmyboy at the moment as I wont need to upgrade the CanBus straight away with his Columbus :thumbup:
