Getting bored of the SE

Featured Replies

Even with all the mods I've done lately I can't help but feel bored of the Octavia and want something else. I don't suppose it helps knowing it will be paid off soon and I'm at work with little todo with my time but look for cars :giggle:

Have found a lovely Passat Sport Estate which is local to me, hmmm..

How could you? :o

I've wanted a Passat since I had one as a courtesy car a few years ago but the Octavia ticks all the boxes. I've never owned a car for more than 3 years and its not unheard of for me to change them after owning them for 1 month.

I just need some time off to enjoy it again and keep those 'I want another car feelings' hidden for a while longer.

I've also made a decision not to mod this car any further :giggle: and any money that would have been spent will goto to savings for the next motor B)

I'm sure you'd probably get as bored, if not more, with a Passat after a while

dont get a passat matt, money pit lately unless its a old shape 3b, stick with skoda lol, have seen numerous electrical things going on the passats lately, steering columns, the keys, dashes, canbus faults. and they suffer from the usual injectors, turbos etc too. Keep your se or get a mk1 octy 1.8t if you want something to tinka with :p

If I keep the SE which I probably will as there is no reason not to, I would like to make the ride a little more compliant on these horribly roads (which is the main thing I miss about my 407), was thinking FSD's but need to try a car with them 1st. The other problem is the rest of the mods I would like todo, none of them are expensive but all add up as there are quite a few

The Passat was a lovely comfortable drive although more grown up/less fun than the Octavia and I know I'd be looking to change that within 9-12months, The SE has managed nearly 18months before getting this feeling which I think must be a record

I am the same with the JPS - will be the first car to reach an MoT for ages

after 5 Octavias (and a Felicia, 2 Favorits and an Estelle) I just got a yeti. Fabulous ride on twisty, bumpy, potholed roads. A real hoot to drive. After 5 Octys I was having those feelign syou described too. Yeti hasn't disappointed

But if you're getting paid off, stickign with the SE makes the most sense I reckon

Matt, if you do decide to sell up...first dibs on the zenec!

I thought I'd keep off the net for a bit but couldn't help it and have been thinking about keeping the SE and buying a mk2 xr2 or 309 gti to restore :giggle:

aaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Def go for an old school resto project mate. As much as I love modern motors, the ones you mention give a very connected driving experience. You could always add a Pug 106 Rallye to the list

I was never a fan of the pug 106, SWMBO & I had a Saxo and much prefered the 309.

I never owned an xr2 but I had the 1.4 sport which I loved and never had a single problem with it, I would have liked the xr2 but at 18 the insurance was rather high :giggle: so I moved onto my 1st 309gti which was cheaper to insure than the fiesta sport B)

That said, I think if I ever did go down the restoration route I would need a bigger garage which would cost more than the car :giggle:

You can get more in your garage than I can in mine

Had mk1 Fezza "Million" and loved it, converted it to 1.3S spec, hence went for a mk2 XR2 when I got the chance. Mate work for Ford, so it got loads of Motorsports parts. I also fitted leccy windows and central locking and enough security to keep it "reasonably" safe!

A properly sorted MK2 is a very chuckable bit of kit! You'll just have the constant battle against the old tin worm!

If you are bored and have the extra cash, just drop down to Portugal, Algarve, we are having excellent weather ;)

That would be nice, unfortunatly I'm stuck at work :'(

My father's 4 year old Passat has been faultless since new.

thing is when they do go its always something very expensive, guess i see the worstcase from working on vw's

Also, with the Passat I find them really quite dull to drive. I know they're a competent overall machine and good at munching up the miles, but they end up not feeling very.... dynamic. Now I know the Octy isn't the last word in driver feedback and interactiveness, but even so!

I suppose it's also about working out why you want to change - are you just bored with having the same car that long, or is there something that you find the Octy particularly lacking at? Is it just the suspension issue?

As for the FSDs, happy to demonstrate if you happen to be nearer Manchester sometime emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Cheers,

Steve.

Steve,

I'm quite flighty (you've probably guessed :giggle: ). When working the weekend day shifts it is usually very quiet and the WWW is your worst enemy as it is used to pass the time & Pistonheads/Autotrader etc etc are so close to hand :'(

On paper the Octavia ticks all the boxes that we need in a car and extra's in it allows me to modify. I did very well to keep it over 1year and only upgrade to 312mm brakes which really does show this car is excelent and doesn't need anything changing (brakes only because the needed changing and I used the caravan as an excuse to upgrade)

The only real thing I would like to get changed is the suspension but ride height must not go down due to towing. I might take you up on the offer of a quick demonstration of the FSD's, I was hoping to ask you at the RR Day as it's quite alot of money to spend on something that you've not felt before.

Anyway, the Zenec has now been removed and the Stream MP3 re-fitted, Whilst the Zenec is an Awesome piece of kit I couldn't get the sound how I wanted it so the Stream has gone back in until I get a Columbus (Columbus required to replace my aging Columbus)

Matthew

something of an Audiophile Matt? got to admit after a quick tweak I was happy enough with the sounds on the Zenec as TBH I just listen to MP3's in the car, which are compressed anyway! maybe you need a Hybrid turbo to relieve the boredom lol

I do like my music  . The Hybrid will only get done if this turbo fails, I'm more than happy with the ooommph that it has and I don't need anymore power, to be fair I was quite pleased with it without the remap but the fact that Ben was almost giving his remaps away with the low cost I couldn't refuse :giggle:

Yeah, that would have been an ideal opportunity. Was a real pain that I couldn't make it emoticon-0114-dull.gif

On the Zenec - did someone not express interest further up this thread? And then you could buy Timmyboy's Columbus - excellent! emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

The suspension is certainly on my todo list but having just had a 4wheel alignment done I shall leave it for a while and concentrate on other things

Yes, sent a PM last night

Sounds fair enough emoticon-0148-yes.gif
