How to drive a VRS

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

Picked up my 07 black VRS about 3 weeks ago, after waiting a year to finish uni and get a job that I could afford one with!

I'm in love, but I want to make sure I do everything I can to look after it and make her last!

After always driving petrols, do I need to be driving a TDI power plant any differently?

Also anything I should be looking out for/ maintainece

I've been skulking round the forum for a few weeks and this is my first topic post so thanks in advance for reading! :-)

Use the torque Luke, use the torque!

Dont use the torque lol

Try to feed the power in low down.... Dont boot it from low revs.... Only use full power after 2.2krpm as the high torque will kill the clutch / flywheel in no time

Always wait a couple of minutes after the engine water temp is up to full heat before driving it hard.... So as the oil is nice and warm.... Preserves turbo.... Same when turning off after a hard run take it easy over the last mile or so before switching off.....

Unless you have a Suitable Clutch + Flywheel to do this like a Paddle Clutch + SMF

But yeh never use the Torque in the low revs

Thanks for the advice! I never knew that giving it full throttle from low revs could be bad for the clutch and fly wheel, will be defo taking all your advice!

Just thought it would be bad for the front tires when the turbo spools up :-p so just feed the power gently in until after 2.2krpm then I'm ok to boot it? It's got such a narrow power band that I'm not using the whole rev range, that ok?

After 2-2.2k it'll be ok. I seem to remember the standard map has lots of shove at lower rpm and runs outta puff @ 4000rpm+. this IMO is why a map makes such a huge difference to a boggo Fabia, the peak power is nice, but it's the smoothing of the curve that makes the difference to driveability.
