Line out adapter for DANCE

Featured Replies

Hi!

Is it possible to connect a amplifier to the Dance head unit with a line out adapter?

Witch one to get? :)

Never done this but according to fabdavrav's post in the technical section where the individual cores are described there are no separate connections at line level to feed an external amp.

That leaves you with 2 options either use a 'Speaker to Line Level converter' or get an amp that has inputs that can accept 'Speaker Level Input'.

I would probably get something like Alpine MRX-F30 which can take all 4 channels at speaker level. Or considering your location MRX-F30

there's lots of other brands that take high level in, don't have to get alpine, a high to low converer would work.

Thanks for replying.

The problem is that I already have a expensive AMP from my previous car.

I found this on the web:

Lineout adapter

Support for OEM Audi/Seat/Skoda/VW with MFD2 headunit.

Would that work?

Without seeing the circuit or an exact description of what this is it would be hard to say. I just did a search on the web and I can see these being sold but not really a description of what they do. Are these meant to provide line out as you want to an amp or are they for feeding the current aux input on the car radio - i.e. a line in for the car but an adapter to provide line out from an external device say an iPod.

Building a speaker level to line level adapter is not hard, it is just a potential divider such as in this circuit

http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/speaker_to_line.html

But is that what this item is, 4 of these - one for each channel ? You need to check with the supplier. I don't think it is as it mentions MFD2 unit, so I would think it was specific to that device. Also if you use the scale of the phono sockets, the connector pin pitch of the radio connector looks very small for an ISO connector.

If you have an amp and that amp does not provide support for speaker level input then there are plenty of speaker to line adapters available or just build 4 of those circuits on a piece of veroboard/stripboard in a small box.

Remember the point about does the Dance unit provide speaker outputs all referenced to Ground or is every channel output a bridge type arrangement. This is important as if a bridge type output then you cannot common outputs together to a common 0V. You would need to confirm with a multimeter if the Dance outputs use a common 0V. If they were all a bridge type arrangement then you would need to provide channel isolation with a speaker isolation transformer, unless your amp provided seperate (balanced) inputs.

Probably better to isolate if unsure as linking bridged outputs could blow output stages.

Do you want to buy products that just plug together or are you happy cutting into the current Dance cabling to obtain your Speaker Outputs of the Dance unit to feed your amp (via this conversion) and finally your Amps output has to then connect back into your cars speaker wiring which would be feeding to your up-rated speakers ? You need to break into the current speaker wiring to do this. You can easily get an ISO extension lead so any cutting is done on the extension lead that you can remove in the future.

I would be surprised if there are not commercial products available for this function but doing a Google search I must admit I can't find any. If I had to do this I would have a talk to somebody in a car audio shop as they would be solving this problem frequently.

Sorry I can’t be of any more help. I’ll watch this thread to see how you get on.

Thanks for replying! :)

I'm sorry to say it was a bit technical about my knowledge.

Picture was not working so I fixed it.

Don't think it is a line in since it has 4 channels.

I never heard the term MFD2 before. What does that mean?

I don't plan on connecting speakers to this amp, only a sub-woofer.

I rather like to buy a plug and play adapter if available.

Has nobody done this before?

Got a picture of the back of a DANCE HU?

I found this in the manual for DANCE:

So the possibility should be there right? :)

MFD2 is a 2 Din DVD Sat-Nav Unit, just search for MFD2 on Google you will see what it is.

I'm going round in circles here saying what you require. I'm still sure you need something like this.

Just make sure that the speaker terminals are isolated with reference to earth. The description of the unit saying ground loop isolation does seem to confirm that but if you know any electronic geeks to confirm with a multimeter it is safer than blowing your Dance unit.

You will need to splice this converter onto your existing speaker wiring and pick up a switched +12v power for the amp. You need some technical help here to avoid any problems.

If you lived near me I would help you myself, but Norway is a bit far !!!!

does the amp have high level in

This is the AMP:

Cadence FXA-5100

http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/cadencefxa-5100.aspx

So it it not possible to buy the adapter I'm referring to?

Could you draw a picture of what you mean?

I'm surprised it is so advanced, when Skoda say it it possible in the manual :)

General Features

High Speed Mosfet Power Supply

Lucite Encapsulated Angled Terminals

12 dB Crossover Circuitry

Fully Adustable Crossover

Bass Boost Equalization

High Level OEM Input <<<< So you don't need a converter !!!!

Lucite Encapulated Terminals

Looking at http://www.cadencesound.com/pages/InstructionManuals.html

I could not see use the user guide for your FXA series amp.

But looking at the user guide for the Flash Series of Cadence amps I did read

This newest series of Flash amplifiers features our newest

circuitry innovation. Say for example you are trying to

integrate the Cadence Flash amplifier in to a system with an

OEM radio which does not have RCA output jacks or a remote

turn on wire for the amplifier, until now you would have had to

configure a complicated relay system to turn on the amplifier

and use en external high-low converter to send the signal

in to the amplifier.

But now all you need to do is to wire your speakers to

the included High Level Input harness and plug the

harness in to the amplifier. When you turn on your OEM

head unit, the amplifier will receive the music signal and

automatically turn on the amplifier. When you turn off the

head unit, the amplifier will automatically turn off after a

60 second built-in delay.

Do not use RCA and High Level Input at the same time.

Do not keep the speakers hooked up to the High Level Input

once you are using them as the amplifiers signal input.

The ideal ground point for the High Level Input harness is

the radio ground, if thats not possible to reach any good

chassis ground point will do.

That does look what you want, so no need for an high to low converter if your amp also has this. BUT The bit I highlighted in red above could be a problem.

Have you got the correct FXA-5100 manual, does it say the same and do you have the plug on harness that is required for the Flash Series amp I read about above.

The auto turn off and on of the Flash Series amp looks good too.
