MK2 FL has to go :( After a nice sub £3000 MK 1

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Well the day has come, I'm after a new job, but until then, the cost of mortgage/car/kids/wife etc are piling up, so I'm after a cheaper car that won't cost much more to run, but is mine in cash........

After scouring the net for some decent sub £3000 MK1's, I'm seeing quite a few that I like.

I've read and re-read chicken_eyebrow's buying guide in this group, and most of it is common to buying any car if you've been around them for a few years, but still it will be printed off and going with me when I have a look. The engine codes are a good point that I can now quickly look at, knowing what a vRS engine code starts with!!!

I've found a few on the Trader, and just wanted to see if they've been owned by anyone here?!

Now, between £2000 and £3000 there doesn't seem to be a HUGe ammount of difference in miles on the clock, versus general condition. Am I better off getting hold of an 80-90k model for nearer £3000 or £2000-£2500 and save a bit for a higher (110-120k) that's been well looked after....................My head's spinning after looking at so many over the weekend, I just wondered if any of you kind peeps have been in a similar situation recently and what gems you have found.......

Thanks in advance,

Neil

You could do a lot worse than buying a known car off this forum.

I recently bought a 2002 L&K 1.8T estate off autotrader, 150K miles and full history, its needed front springs, front wishbone rear bushes, arb clamp bushes, zenon light adjuster link rod, rear disks and pads and I've ordered a dog bone mount.

Other jobs needing to be done soon are timing belt, tensioners etc and water pump.

The car drives very well now

There's a lot of tat around at 8 + years old, many cars are being disposed of because big bills are looming, buyer beware

Check ebay classified too, there are loads of vRS on there. Found mine on there recently. Possibly paid slightly too much but it was reasonably mint for the age/mileage, FSH and all the belts/pumps done. :)

Mine is for sale.. not far from Brum too .

mechanically spot on but has the usual small marks etc from 9 years of use! nothing bad tho.

Its in the cars for sale on here

100k + Mileage is no big deal with VRS's, but a well documented service history is essential.

what's yours worth fella? Might do a p/x or someone else on here might be up for it?

OP.

THe vRS engine code is AUQ its on a small lug at the front of the block off to one side.

Miles is nothing but to be sure a good history as said.

silver is prob the safest colour too, dont show the marks the same lol.

best bet is to go test a few and just get the one you like the most regardless of the price. the one that feels good to you.

I'm considering selling mine on mate and I'm only in Cannock. Full history very well looked after etc.

Look through my profile to see some pics. For £3k I would return the brakes and wheels to standard but everything else would remain on the car
