Wheel Speed Sensor

Featured Replies

Sealey VAG Code Reader tell me I have a problem with my REAR LEFT ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR code G46 .

I removed it and I see the tip has some scratches compared to the RIGHT WHEEL SENSOR.

I would appreiate if someone could tell what in the sensor, ie component wise?

I metered it and its "infinity" and "713" ohms a bit like a diode, the RIGHT WHEEL SENSOR gives the same reading.

The sensors are not interchangable!!!!.

Checked the loom and its ok.

Would it be possible that rotor ring (think that's what it is called) is damaged, I don't know how to remove it.

Thanks in advance.

The rotor is built into the bearing and is changed with that.

Diagnostic software such as VAS PC or VCDS will show if the abs is picking the sensor up.

The sensors have a coil of copper wire inside.

Even though the 2 rear sensors are different are the plugs the same? You could temporarily plug right to left / left to right, clear the code and if the code returns for the oposite side the sensor is open circuit.

I've had the ABS dash light on 2 cars, a Corrado and a MK4 Golf, the light went out on both when the sensor was plugged into the loom without the sensors being in the hub proving open circuit sensors.

I had an intermittant ABS fauly warning light on a Hyundai Santa Fe which turned out to be a broken "Toner Ring" (I assume this is the part that rotates with the wheel that the sensor focuses on), which apparently is a common fault on Hyundai's (Changed under warranty so I don't know what typical ccost of this is).

Hi I've the same problem with the same wheel.I changed both rear wheel speed sensors before finding out that it was the "magnetic reluctor ring" on the back of the hub that had perished. This ring is pressed onto the back of the hub and can come off, but I have not found a supplier for the ring yet. Do you know if you can get the rings on there own or do you have to buy the complete hub. jk

Hi,

I also bought a new sensor but before we replaced old sensor we decided to blow compressed air in the hole while spinning the wheel this cleared the fault. So we didn't replace the sensor.

We recon there was dirt in the reluctor ring.

I did notice some scratches on the tip of the sensor. so it looks like grit was/is!! getting into the hub.

I'm meeting a mechanic in the next couple of days and will ask him if its possible to buy the reluctor ring.

Also it may be possible to buy a second hand hub with reluctor ring.

I buy secondhand parts from Traynors Motorstore 02838 891 242, the guys are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Let us know how you get on.
