screen wash jets

Featured Replies

does anybody know how to adjust the spray angle on the screen wash jets? mine lost their fan pattern long ago:( now they are starting to shoot a jet of fluid up over the roof.

Quick way to sort this is to buy new nozzles, sounds like they are partially blocked, IIRC quite a large part of the nozzles adjusts, the new ones will probably be close enough as they come.

You are best (if you dont want to buy new ones) to remove them and soak them in hot water with washing up liquid, then take a fine needle or piece of wire and clean them out. Next get an air line and blow them back from the nozzle end. you will have to mess around with them and experiment to get them working properly but the good thing is you can't do any damage As for adjustment the full square adjusts up and down. One way of doing it is putting the needle in through the hole on the front and gently moving it up or down but when you have them out you will see just how easy they are to adjust

On the Elegance model, from under the bonnet you can see some wires attached to the nozzle - presumably for heating elements. Anyone know how to get these working? (They've frozen in the past, so I guess they're not already live)

cheers

I have an elegance model and never seen the wires there. But the plastic caps always fall off into the scuttle area!

I suppose the heaters might be activated through the door mirror heating system. It's not the jets that are usually the problem its the actual fluid in the reservoir so if the winter concentration is high enough it should be OK, just forget the b0LL0ck5 about diluting 5 to 1 to get to -5 degree concentration cos that does not take into account wind chill factor when you are actually moving along, so I keep mine at a concentration suitable for -15 to -20 and that stops the jets freezing even at 90mph.

My washer nozzles always freeze too (2.5 TDi Elegance), I just carry some water with me now inside the car in case I need it. Last winter, that froze too though.

Wind chill only affects living things (like us) and other things that end up continuously "wetted" - the wind forces the moisture to evaporate and that draws heat out of the body that is wet. If the ambient temperature is - say 10C, if you are travelling at 90MPH the ambient air will still be 10C but any item above that temperature will get cooled quicker that it would be if the speed was 9MPH.

Keeping the concentration of additive at a level that will protect against at least -20C is always the smart thing to do in the winter months - unless the weather gets even worse - I've now got my winter tyres on my car though!!
