What no Jack!

Featured Replies

I didn't realise that my Octavia Greenline didn't come with a car jack. I knew it didn't come with a spare wheel - but all the other cars I've had (that didn't have a spare ) had a jack. So It will be time to switch to the winter wheels - so what should I do - get

the standard VAG jack, a scissor jack, a Trolley jack or what?

(I did think I could use the wife's Audi A6 jack but they seem to have a completely different end that attaches to the car.)

Any recommendations?

I have a couple of VW jacks if you want to try them and you're near Crewe?

EDIT for a pic

Skoda in their wisdom obviously think that because you have no spare wheel then there is also no need for a jack or wheel brace.

Personally if you have got to buy one then I would buy a trolley jack as they are far more stable.

I was in the same situation, but managed to get a genuine VW Golf jack at a boot sale for a £1. Works perfectly.

If I was at home I would never use the standard scissor jack, always a trolley jack and an axel stand for security.

If you don't have a spare wheel and therefore have no need to jack up the car at the side of the road then there is little point in carrying a jack and wheel brace in the car on every journey.

Invest in a good quality trolley jack and a pair of axel stands and keep them in the garage.

Better still invest in a spare wheel and jack and sacrifice the 0.5mpg they'll cost you in added weight happy in the knowledge your not going to be stranded with a ripped tyre and a can of shaving foam! Plenty on eBay complete with the foam storage for all the bits.

I am near Crewe and interested.

and remember guys; if you have a DSG and are jacking the rear of the car up, put it into park and move the car slightly so it "butts up" against the transmission before applying the handbrake otherwise the car can "creep" sufficiently to fall clean off a jack.

I'll PM you contact details

Thanks to Dox  for the offer of a VAG jack but I decided to get a trolley jack as it would be more versatile in the long run.
