The Ohm is the unit of electrical resistance. One ohm is equal to the current of one ampere which will flow when a voltage of one volt is applied.

I'm not sure if that makes sense, but hope it helps!

A low resistance means you get more wattage per volt 'across the terminals'.

As unlike at home hifi in cars you are starting with a lowly 12V, it can make a bigger difference.

Another thing is that most speakers are 4 Ohms in cars. The wiring to the speaker has some resistance too. The higher that resistance, the more 'loss' you get across the wire towards the speaker.

It is also one of the reasons why it's worth dropping a feed (set of) wire(s) to the boot if you have an amp in there. The resistance of the earth through the car is too significant to ignore for the kind of currents you want to push through, so a clean feed is important :)

also in addiction to this walkie you are looking at subs and amps and speakers, to fit becareful when buying an amp to power the speakers....if you buy a 4ohm stable amp but a sub that is two ohm you will smoke the amp... or if its the other way round run less power to the sub an maybe damage that...
