Does anyone know why the towing eye has a left hand thread?

Had to tow someone last weekend and, like other people, found it difficult to remove the cover - but that is an other subject!

Probably so that you can only screw the proper eye in and not any old bolt or hook you bought in B & Q which is not designed to the correct spec I would guess...?

Rope by design is laid up with a clockwise twist so will unwind a right hand thread.......?
