Hands-free kit installation / Quadblock

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Am looking to put a hands-free kit into the Octy. Have already got a Nokia CK-7W which does what I want it too. Have been looking to get some sort of wiring sorted and came across this thing "Ford Quadblock connector" on eBay.

Is a Quadblock a Quadblock, or are there different flavours of them?

Cheers.

I thought it was Quadlock.

I've not looked at the connector in a skoda yet but there's a chance that if they are the same, they may be wired up differently

Sorry, yes, it is Quadlock, must've been a funny day yesterday :S

I've also found this: 12-pin connector which looks like it will do the job, according to Octavia-vRS (used as reference only, as it's the only place I could find a lot of connector information. {i.e. usual disclaimer stuff})

The main advantage of the connector shown is that you won't have to find space in the back of the dashboard for 500 miles of un-needed cable.

The dis-advantage is you'll still need to run power and ignition. Looking at Octavia-vRS though, taking the dash apart to feed cables to the fuse-box doesn't look that bad, especially if you're heading that way with the mic. (Have thought about mounting mine on the bottom of the instrument cluster.)

Does anyone know if using the blue 12-pin connector will require any coding on the HU to accept the audio feed too?

Thanks

The HU shouldn't require any coding when using the blue multi-connector - you will need 3 connections to this (telephone + / telephone - and mute). The quadlocks made by different vehicle manufacturers are sometimes slightly different physically and in configuration as well - don't advise using one for a Ford.

Thanks TC, I'll go for the blue connector, might be easier now too as I've had a Parrot 3200 dropped on my desk today :D

Have a look for the relevant Élan Intellimute, that should provide power and make them completely plug and play
