Strange noises from turbo

Featured Replies

Hi people I recently purchased a 56 plate Fabia VRS with 54000 on the clock. The car is great I absolutely love it and the way it drives however I have had a few problems.

The turbo went within 1500 ish miles and was replaced on the Skoda used warranty. I have done around 3000 miles on the new turbo and now I have noticed a few noises, the sound is like a siren but much quieter. When I rev the engine up to around 3000 I hear the usual spool and a bit of whistle but as the revs fall back down I get a whooo noise which I don’t like.

Some people tell me it’s the turbo recirculating but I am unsure if the noise is normal, I believe the car has had a remap could this be the cause?

Thanks in advance ;)

Normal fella, new turbo boosting better than old one so sounds different :).

I've just developed a strange noise from my car - sounds like a kind of screeching noise when on boost (not turbo whistle) but has just developed in the last week since having a FMIC fitted?

Its very faint but noticable, not sure what it could be?

possible slight boost leak (most likely one of the older pipe joints)

Tbh the standard turbo is rubbish

Do you honestly want to risk a £700 intercooler as the turbo may knacker it if it goes

Na dont think so - I've had boost leaks before and thats more of a hissing - this is a strange screech noise. Also no excessive smoke or loss of power

Are you sure the noise is coming from the turbo, a faint screeching noise could be something like brakes, piece of grit stuck in the pad for example. Might be worth getting somebody to rev the engine for you at a standstill and have a look about the engine bay, at least that way you could identify roughly where the sound is coming from.

Not really, but this months buy might have been a clutch :( seems they're needing replaced at the same time....

Im not 100% sure its from the turbo but it only happens on boost? My first thought was brakes but doesnt do it when off boost
