Getting new clutch & flywheel

Featured Replies

My clutch slip is slowly getting worse.

It first started around this time last year & was practically bad during the very cold weather.

Slipping happens in 4th or 5th gear @ 2000rpm. If I boot it, the engine revs a bit before biting.

The slipping seemed to stop once the weather warmed up & I've not been getting it for some while. However, the other day as I joined the motorway I put my foot down & the engine revved before biting. Not good for overtaking!!

Anyway, I'm gonna get a new clutch with flywheel. I'm going to fit it at my old mans garage so I don't need to consider labour charges.

I've seen this on ebay & have seen them being mentioned on this forum a few times.

Are Sachs consider better than OEM or is it what a Skoda dealer would fit if I took my car there?

Is that a good price?

Has anyone got one of these? (is it ok?)

However, are there any better places to buy from?

I've tried AVS but they seemed to be out of stock.

Cheers.

Assuming that kit is genuine and not some cheap Chinese copy, then it's OEM. Price is pretty good. A while back the kit could be got for £300+VAT but the company seemed to run out of stock, (for obvious reasons.) Make sure you use a torque wrench for the flywheel to crank bolts, and the clutch cover plate.

Torque each bolt up in stages, working in a cross pattern, if this isn't done, clutch judder is common.

We have 25% discount at Eurocarparts as Briskoda members.

Might be worth giving them a ring.

Well, A Sachs Clutch & Flywheel is £422 from Eurocarparts, so with a 25% discount thats £316 inc VAT & delivery!! Thats a HUGE saving if I can get 25% off!!

Eurocarparts also sell a LUK Clutch kit & with flywheel it works out to be £45 more.

Does anyone know what the difference between the Sachs kit & the LUK kit? Would the LUK clutch be better for mapped engines?

Cheers

Mines mapped and my Sachs Clutch and DMF is fine.

I just had to adjust my driving style to suit a high

torque TDI car. That's how my first one went south :D

Poor driving on my part, but it was my first diesel car

so thats my excuse ;)

Check the Euro car parts forum for more details of the

discount scheme. You need to add a discount code at the checkout.

I'll pm it to you

Got the PM Garry, thanks buddy!!!

Theres less chance of me damaging the new clutch as I've switched jobs now & its mostly motorway driving now, where as my previous job was mostly coutry lanes with massive hills & lots of overtaking. :giggle:

boooo!! Clutches dont seem to be included in the 25% off offer!

Which means I can only afford the Sachs one!

On a side note. How long does it take to change a clutch and DMF on a VRS? Would 3 hours seem reasonable? And is there any thing that may cause a problem?

Depends how many you have done. For a first time DIY count on 6 hours.

The code CLUTCH15 still gets a whopping 15% off all Clutches, DMFs and CSCs

Thats great - thanks.

Will be having some help from a couple of professional mechanics at my dads place.

They changed the Clutch & DMF on my brothers 54 plate 1.9TDI Superb. So, at least they will know what to expect.

Keeps a quick questions - can I mix & match?

Buy the LUK Clutch kit & the Sachs Dual Mass Flywheel??

Will this be ok?

I was talking to a vw assistance mechanic. He said if you were ever looking at getting a new clutch, he recommend LUK. Apparently pretty much all clutch manufacturers sell recondition clutches. LUK are 99% brand brand new! Now, I dont know if thats true, but I reckon Ill get myself a LUK one over any others :p good to know 15% discount can be had too
