Three network/Rsap/GSM III

Featured Replies

Hi all, about to push the button on a Octavia Elegance Estate 1.6 TDI

What I'm scratching my head with (Skoda garage still to confirm) is as I've got a Three network phone they will not work with the GSM III hands free bluetooth kit?

My research says that they won't work, but some posts are slightly old.

Guess if they don't work, then I'll need to change network!

Phone is a Nokia E72 which has rsap, but Three i believe disable it?

Also, are there any solutions to avoid changing provider?

Cheers for advise.

Andy

Can't see why 3 would disable it but if you are buying a car built after july 2010 it will have HFP as well as RSAP anyway and being a Nokia i am 99.9% certain it will work.

My wife has an HTC wildfire and it works perfectly with my GSMIII bluetooth / RSAP kit, as does my rooted HD2 and my daughters Iphone 4...seems to connect to everything!

Here's a picture of 2 Nokia's Xpress5800 and old E61i, (both tested on my Skoda worked fine) they both have rSAP. Check Bluetooth settings.

Also check within the Phone menu for Phone Management->Device Update" as newer Nokia phones can update over the wifi without you loosing anything.

Dial *#0000# and check what version are you running, latest is v71.004 for E72.

I doubt 3 would customize the Nokia. E72 is pretty new to be missing rSAP, and if it really is customized then, get Nokia PC Suite (a good Phone management/backup app), backup your phone, then download Nokia Software Update(should be an option within PC Suite, and see if a new firmware is available for E72, and de-brand your self from 3 :)

i'm not sure if the "9wz" (i have), is the same bt unit used by GSMIII?

Thanks for the reply - my mate has a E72 on Vodafone and his works fine on his Superb. Tried mine last night and although it paired no problem it then went to 'no network' status.

Having spoke with Three (Mumbai!!) they had no idea what a rsap was even so worse than useless.

I did find a forum which mentions that Three only have 3G and that the Skoda/VW system is 2G? That being the case, Three disable the function as they would always be paying another provider to use their masts.

Just wanted clarification on that point.

Doesn't the 2G/3G refer to the data carrier - GPRS vs UMTS/WCDMA/HSDPA - rather than the voice piece? GSM is GSM, so there's no reason there that it wouldn't work.

That said, I'd be inclined to believe your own eyes if you've tested it. It may be that the car SIM can't connect to the 3 network for some reason in a 2G area, even if it is odd... that would explain why rSAP would be relevant, since that transfers the identity of your 'phone's SIM to the car rather than using the SIM in the handset as HFP would.

But HFP should work absolutely fine, that's just a common-or-garden Bluetooth connection like the Parrot boxes, headsets and everything else, I believe.
