Inner CV joint

Featured Replies

My n/s inner CV joint is badly worn. Noticed noise from it and checked it out and there's no grease in it. Dunno why as all the clips were intact and the boot is in one piece!

Can't find a replacement one searched the net with no luck. Do I need to get a second drive shaft? Anyone got one?

If it was mine i would remove the shaft & strip it down & re grease it all & try it & see if that cures the fault before buying a new driveshaft,if you buy a 2nd hand one you have to be carefull the one you buy isnt worse than yours. Ive found normally a re grease cures these faults.

there's loads of play in it had it jacked up last night and there's no way more grease would help. The track rod end and the outer CV joint were hiding the symptoms :(. Found a post that said it was possible to change the joint but i can't seem to find one.

Does no one know where i can buy an inner CV joint from or a second hand driveshaft? :(

There is at least one VRS being broken at moment - have a look in the for sale section. Otherwise a dealer or TPS and maybe ECP or GSF, or vwspares or jorily or skospares (though they seem to mainly have taxis).

Hi mate,

The original stuff in the inner CV is not really grease, the ones I have stripped from both cars were just really thick oil and were really runny.

Well one was std I would say and the other was:

Both my ones off my car were the oily stuff in the first pic. I thought mine was causing my drone/grinding hence why I stripped all the inner CV and made up the best pos. My drivers side one was spot on and I just packed lots of grease in it, the Passengers one I totally stripped and made up the best I could, I have the parts in a boz somwhere and none had play in them. the only thing I went on was this:

Like scoring? not sure but all were very much the same so I took the best one.

You cant just buy the iner CV I dont think, its all a part of the shaft which is a lot of money. (dont quote me tho) plu I think they are exchange items pos?

You can get the service kit which is in the pics mate, I got one and sorted mine out. Ill have a look in the shed one day this week see if I can find them, youll need the service kit for the retaining circlip and a new boot and clamps (I even have the tool to tighten the OE clips)

Found this My link

Under £20 anyone tried the company before? Would save me taking it apart to rebuild it.

How hard is it to take the old joint off and put the new one on?

Gettin the shaft off you need a spline set and its a pain in the ass.

Pain to get it off the gearbox, then depends how much you take off the outer part. Undo the hub nut or just take the whole hub assembly off the wishbone and shock.

Pain

Good luck mate

 Takes me 10mins to get the shaft off, m8 has a pit. Just loosen the hub nut, jack the car up, take the 3 bolts out for the ball joint and undo the driveshaft bolts. Don't even need to take the wheel off! (Drive shaft has been off 4 times, once for a new outer boot then a cv joint then another boot as i split it taking the track rod off and i split a new one trying to put it on so had to try again lol)

It's removing the inner cv joint it's self i was wondering about.

thats a dodle, biggest pain is the circlip lol, bit hard with just one pair of hands and no reall tool.

then it just pulls off the shaft.

There's a circlip for the inner one? Hope it comes with one, last time i did the inner one it went into the rafters!

Is the one i posted the link to the right joint?

anyone heard of jandr cv joints? they seem to sell cheap parts but are they any good?

  • Author

Yup that's what I got in the end, next day delivery and both joints were vw stamped

Sent from my GT-I9100. Not a Crapple!

Err 77k? They look worse than the 130k I had to change! If you want second hand look at the cars being broken or post an ad in the wanted section

is there a way of removing passenger side driveshaft without removing/touching the ball joint?

I have shocks to go on too - will removing the strut give enough room since this is getting replaced anyway?

I bought an inner joint for my Octavia PD 130 from J and R more than a year ago, (this is the link posted above).  It was so cheap I really didn't think it would last.  Its still going fine 11k later!.

My mechanic mate commented on the apparent good quality when he fitted it.

They seem to have a wide variety of models.

Cheers,  Terry

Hi yes that was the one I'm going to fit - can anyone advise if I can do this job without disconnecting the bottom ball joint - i.e removing the strut only

anyone?

I took the risk and bought a pair of J&R as listed above. 60 quid for the pair!

Still going strong after 6 months. 2 year guarantee on them.

BUT I wouldn't recomend the offside long shaft as the J&R is solid and does resonate a little at certain revs/loads. The original hollow one didn't.

Probably get my original N/S one rebuilt as it was the nearside shaft(short) that broke on mine.

passenger side is the one I think might have gone on mine

last call!! can passenger side driveshaft be replaced by only removing the strut i.e not disconnecting the ball joint?
