Blue detailing tape

Featured Replies

Hello,

Does anyone know what the difference is between blue detailing tape and standard insulation tape please? I want to wax the car and cover the plastic trim and am thinking of using standard tape. What's the advantage of detailing tape? Less glue residue maybe? Any advice welcome

It's designed to not leave any residue, yes. And it's specifically designed for vehicle use.

To borrow 3M's description:

"Featuring an exceptionally water-resistant, low-tack, rubber-derived adhesive, this paper-based tape does not lift when lightly wetted and, unlike the stickier general purpose tapes mentioned above, leaves no adhesive residue behind on exterior vehicle surfaces once removed."

Thanks for this , will have to try and get some blue tape then...

No worries. Plenty of the decent detailing supply places have it.

Polished Bliss, Elite, CleanMyCar etc etc.

I've seen this started to be stocked at Costco, no idea on price.

Useful to know, cheers. Will take a look next time I'm in.

Not sure all blue tape is the same. The B&Q stuff is no good and doesn't stick to plastic trim or window rubbers.

Buy it direct from 3M (3mselect.co.uk) as their prices are about the best.

Damn, just got the B&Q 3m tape :(

It's called painters tape, will see how it goes...

Give it a go, should be alright, press it down!

The only difference between the blue 3M 3434 tape and it's white counterparts is that it's waterproof........;)

Just something I heard ;)

I'd take the B&Q stuff back and buy the proper 3M stuff

I used Tesco value masking tape .

It works because there is not enough glue on it for the use they make it for and it does not leave any marks

Regards Whoosh

i really need to get some of this blue tape stuff, just waxed my car and got wax all over the edges of the windscreen, lights and black trim
