Thinking of getting an Octavia 2.0 FSI Elegance - Opinions?

Featured Replies

It's got 41,000 miles, 2005(55) plate, it's a 2.0 FSI. I've had a VW Golf with the 2.0 FSI engine which was nothing but a nightmare with coolant loss, ended up changing the head gasket, skimming the head, turns out it was a £10 part called the top coolant housing, and the ECU light coming on and it going into 'safe' mode.

How common are these problems? Would I likely have the same problems again?

I'm not sure if the cambelt has been done either, what's the service interval on those?

I've already put down the deposit on this, now I'm having 2nd thoughts. Is there a more reliable engine in the range?

Cheers,

Not had these issues on our 2007 2.0 FSI Elegance.

What extras has it got? Most buyers opted for the 17" alloy upgrade as the standard 6 spoke design looked pants.

EDIT cambelt is 4 years or 40k which ever is soonest, so should have been done.

I dunno what's standard and what's not, but it's got a 6 disc changer, auto wipers, HID headlamps, fog lamps, dual zone climate, cruise, full size spare (yay!), I think they're the standard 6 spoke alloys too.

Had one and it was okay but not as good as present 1.8TSi. Also, even with low mileage and careful use, the A/C compressor went at about 2 yrs 9 months and cat was on its way out at 3 years.

Also had a tendency to go into Limp Mode very easily if back seats loaded. No reason why was ever found.
