Alternator load signal wire

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just wondering to anyone that's had this problem - roughly how much does it cost to fix?

Reading through posts, I'm fairly certain my car is currently suffering from this. The ASR light comes on approx 10 minutes into driving every journey, and stays on until the ignition is turned off and on again. The battery light doesn't come on when the ignition is first switched on, either, like it used to do.

The one thing I couldn't find out from searching is roughly how much it will cost to fix, as most people seem to DIY.

Anyone know how much I should be expecting to pay at my local independent VAG specialist?

Thanks,

Andrew

I did it myself :D just soldered it one side and used bullet terminals on the other and taped it all up with electrical tape, using the guide that is on a seat forum I think :)

Battery tray out for access, repair broken wire using bridging wire. All in say an hour, so about £50.

DIY it costs about 50p

Just a quick update for anyone searching for an answer for this thread:

The local VAG specialist I usually use charged 2 hours to fix the issue (obviously no parts involved). It's 1 hour more than you reckoned, Moggy, but I was happy to pay it;

A. because I know they have done a good job, and

B. I had some other stuff done at the same time which I don't think they charged enough for and

C. they have always been very, very good to me in the past.

So glad to have it fixed. I was playing warning light bingo the other night - a bulb blew, my low-fuel light was on and the TC light!
