Glow plugs not stating on long

Featured Replies

For a while now I've noticed my glow plug light doesn't stay on long in the cold mornings. It pretty much goes out straight away. I also get a but of white/greyish smoke.

My theory is the glow plugs are not working causing not all the fuel to burn.

Any ideas?

Can you hear the relay switch the plugs off and does it happen in conjunction with or after the light going out? In my last car the light went off very quickly but the plugs kept heating (certainly according to the voltmeter) for another few seconds.

Can't say I can hear the relay. But then I've never noticed it in 7.5 years :)

Even if I leave it after the light goes our a still get it. Is the relay on top of the battery?

Sounds normal to me, mine has always gone out within a couple of seconds, even when it's really cold outside. The white/grey smoke will simply be condensation inside the exhaust burning off. Relay is on the right hand side of the battery box.

When one of my glow plugs burnt out and stopped working the engine management light came on.
