PART REQUEST - SDRAM

Featured Replies

I've acquired an old IBM Thinkpad T20 - and it works fine!

So far I've given it a 20gb HDD (as opposed to it's 12gb), stuck a wireless PCMCIA card in and upgraded it from Win 98 to XP.

However, I'm trying to upgrade the measly 128mb of ram and the price of SDRAM is absurd.

So if anyone happens to have any kicking around, I'll happily pay for the postage and offer something (dunno what yet!) in return!

I'd like 2 x 256mb if poss as the board maxes out at 512 and each slot maxes out at 256!

I think I found a 256Mb stick of PC2700 SDRAM in my desk at work today. If you still want it, it's yours.

if it's 144pin PC100 SDRAM you want let me know - I have a stick here

pm me if interested

Oh yeah, mine is still DDR SDRAM, I misread the OP. I definitely don't have anything older than that :(

I shall try and remember to look in the graveyard at work tomorrow IIRC there is an old Dell Laptop with probably the right sort of ram in it.

It's tricky to find the correct sdram for old laptops. When I looked for extra ram for my old Dell I got two modules that looked right:

old module 256MB DDR266 PC2100, 200p SODIMM, 2.5v

new modules 512MB DDR266 PC2100, 200p SODIMM, 2.5v

But they didn't work. Reason? Modules were built using 8x64 MB chips, but the motherboard couldn't address chips larger than 32 MB. I had to look further for modules with 16x32 MB chips.

So make sure you get the right ones from the start. Here are a few alternatives:

Even after upgrading RAM and HDD you're stuck with a Pentium III 700MHz processor so don't expect too much... a lightweight Linux distro should run fine, though.
