Well my car has once again brought up the magical engine light (now in double figures!) so, staying true to my threat to the garage I am demanding they get me a new Fabia. I'm going to try and push my luck (aye, you don't know if you don't try do you?) and ask them to source me a vRS... having a quick browse this morning I found this

It seems very good value for money. Plus it says it's got leather too.

But this is proberly because they mention it's had "very minor damage" which means it'll probably be recorded.

You need to check what catagory damage it's had. Preferably through a HPI check.

It should be D, which is the most minor and doesn't need inspecting before being put back on the road.

If it's C then it's had significant damage and it definately doesn't count as "very minor". Catagory C vehicles must have had an inspection before being put back on the road to make sure the repairs have been done to an acceptable standard and it's safe to go back on the road.

There is also A and B, but these can't go back on the road at all, so you don't need to worry aboust these.

Personally, a cheap cat D vehicle wouldn't bother me, provided it's been repaired to a good standard.

Ideally there will be some history showing the damage so you can see how bad it was. Sometimes if it is minor they'll have before and after photos to show how much work was needed. This helps to reassure a new owner when it shows up on the HPI database as D/C.

Bear in mind it is cheap, but if registered as D/C it will also be worth less when you come to sell it. Which doesn't really matter if you are going to keep it for a bit.

Like I said was just a quick browse this morning so will have a better look later once I've spoken to the garage and if they agree to get me a vrs in the first place...

Not to worry you but do make sure of exactly what the damage was and quality of repair. Dont know if you have seen this but its worth a watch.

It seems pricey for an accident damaged and repaired car. BossFox has already covered that well enough that I've nothing to add there.

Despite the "low" mileage, it should have documentation of a cambelt change (probably in 2009) and preferably a replacement water pump at the same time, though that's less of an issue with the 1.9D engines than with the 1.8Ts and 2.0ls because the diesels run cooler so are less prone to the plastic impellor becoming heat fragile and breaking up.

Also, on a 6yo car I'd want evidence of a recent brake fluid change or the supplying garage to do it before taking delivery.

What evidence is there of mileage? Just the service book, or are they supplying MOT certs and/or service checksheets to back this up?
