Torn ABS-sensor cord but no ABS warning light on.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. Hope you can help me :-)

I have bought a used Fabia 1,4 16V from 2004 (engine BBY).

Today as I was changing to winter tyres, I noticed that the cord to the ABS sensor on the left front side, was torn from the plug, so there was just a cord with the wires sticking out. This puzzles me as I have had no warning from the ABS warning light. When I turn on the engine the ABS bulp lights up momentarily and then goes out. So everything look fine.

How is this possible? Should'nt the ECU give a DTC (trouble code) showing a disconnected ABS-sensor?

My first thought was that the previous owner, switched of the ABS-sensor or the all of ABS in the ECU. But when I got the car the ABS was working, when I blocked the brakes on ice.

Is it possible that he has told the ECU to disregard only one ABS-sensor? Is it possible to check this from a reading block in the ECU?

Can I just put in a new ABS sensor cord or does the ECU need to be reprogrammed afterwards?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts? :smirk:

Hi, Yes you can check the four speed sensor outputs in measuring blocks with vcds, go to 03 abs, measuring blocks, and the four sensors are in group 01,

Are you sure it the abs sensr wiring that is broken as the disk pad wear indicator loom runs along side the abs sensor.

If a sensor fails you should also have fault code stored. Regards Tony
