Interest in an Aquapel rain repellant GB?

Featured Replies

This was moderately successful a couple of years back, but hasn't been looked in to in recent times. Basically Aquapel is a caplet of "stuff" which when applied correctly repels rain for many months - no need for wipers above about 60mph in the rain. Improvement overall in visibility! One caplet will do approx 2 square metres of glass. Generally I use two at the same time. Do the windscreen once and the two front side windows, then another caplet on the screen again (leaving time to dry and set) then do the side rear windows.

Importing from the USA is the cheapest way of doing it although at this stage I have no idea on what import dutys/VAT might be applied. The core price is roughly £2 and a bit per caplet, before thinking about shipping, duty & VAT on top. I will suspect by the end of it, it will come out around £8 for two, including domestic shipping, say £14 for four.

You'll note from Ebay there are domestically available "Aquapel" around a similar price but I am not convinced it is the real deal due to them being plastic/vacuum sealed in 4's. The stuff from the USA is the real stuff and comes in boxes of 48, designed for valeting/business use.

Would there be any interest. Out of principle I am putting myself down for 4. Keep a running total going to see how many its worth looking into getting, if any.... :) Usual Briskoda group buy disclaimer applies, although really this isn't actually one, just an interest thread.

Costco were selling the 4 packs for about 6 months last year but not seen them there for a while.

I have 4 left, so I'm out.

Have you used them? Do they seem like the real thing? I can't help thinking they were not the real thing in the black 4 pack setup. If that is the case, the GB is useless as they are about the same price.

Picking this off eBay, http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Vehicle-Parts-Accessories-/131090/i.html?_nkw=aquapel&_dmpt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&_rdc=1

it is the same packaging. Seems proper to me but I haven't used imported aquapel to compare. Maybe someone else has?

Where in US are you sourcing from?

I've bought a number of batches from Ray Sands Glass - they have always been very good and reasonably priced.

I was only thinking about getting some more modules the other day, only have 3 left and need to do the new Superb when it arrives plus SWMBO's Mini.

Would be interested if price is right.

There's a dealer called tintnelectronics on Ebay that has 144 caplets for $475. Then looking at £30+ for shipping, potential VAT of 20% (£70 by my reckoning) & import duty of £20.

I could be interested again if the price is right.

Does washing the car affect ye treatment? How long does it last?

Thanks

You'll need to ensure you don't use any kind of glass cutter/polish on the glass after as it will remove the coating. Normal washing with car shampoo is fine (best to avoid hot water though)

Lasts several months. I reckon at least 6 to 8 before it gets to a point you think it is wearing off.

Well depending on final price- I could be interested yes :)

I shall keep my eye out on this forum thread

Googling the stock number 325131 which can be seen on some of the ebay 4 packs shows these available via Costco USA as clearance items at under $10 a pack. Might explain why they are popping up on ebay.

Gtchniq G1 is meant to be out of this world, i have duxsback on my front screen exactly like the aquapel packaging if i'm honest as soon as i snapped the two "wings" together the repelant dripped out of the bottom all over the ground **** poor design if i'm honest.

In if it takes off.

Unlikely to take off to be honest. Its fairly widely available in the UK at only a dribble more than any group buy is likely to be able to do. The only way to get it cheaper is if someone could get over there and bring a load back in a suitcase (in a plain box, no invoice, etc etc ;))

Exactly, if the same stuff then this may as well be bought @ £15 all-in.... Also more secure packaging. I just want to be sure it is the same stuff. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aquapel-Car-Glass-Treatment-Windscreen-Rain-Repellent-/230581660625?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35afbcebd1

Just bought some of this and it was delivered this morning, I can confirm it is the same stuff and is labelled up as being of costco origin, compared it to one vial I had left from the original GB and its identical.

I got the 4 pack from costco.. its the real stuff! It will have just been packaged especially for costco customers.

Only have one left now though.

Well, this GB is fairly pointless now, so I am going to lock this. Won't bother actually deleting as someone might find the Ebay/costco references useful in the future.
