DPF 30 second after service

Featured Replies

I have had my vrs with the pd engine since 1st sept.

Ive managed about 1500 miles in the car so far, casual use, and ive had to deal with the DPF light maybe 8 times.

The car went in for its 4th service on wednesday, i forgot to mention the amount of lights it had show but thought it may just be my driving style having a heavy foot.

As i pulled out of the service center the dpf light came on. As i was just by gatwick i headed to the m23, i made my way to J4 on the m25, About 30miles in 5th at 2200rpm ish.

The light was still on, as i turned to come back safe mode kicked it.

Should they have picked this up in the service?

The other thing that annoyed me was when i took my company Superb in for a service at the same dealer, That ended up in safe mode within 24 hours for the dpf, which they charged me £90 to sort then it turned out to be a faulty sensor.

The car is out of warranty so will i have to expect some large bills?

Sorry as i know this has probly been asked a few times.

You should have turned straight round & gone back to the dealer. The first thing I guess they will ask is why didnt you. Be prepared for a battle, be polite but firm & stand your ground, if the dealers decent they may help with a forced regen FOC

If the DPF is shot which is unlikely then consider having it removed ^& the car remapped, it will be cheaper than a new DPF. Do a search on here as loads have had it done

I should of taken it back but im sure they would have told me to do what i did.

On the way back to the dealer this morning i was driving along the road in 6th doing as few rpm as i could and the car decided to come out of safe mode.

I took it into the dealer anyway, i was polite and explained what had happened. They said they would look into it and get back to me.

they have just called me back and told me the Exhaust pressure sensor is faulty.

When and if they did the diagnostic in the "major" service should this not have come up as being faulty?

They have said they will drop the diagnostic fee but its £46 for the sensor and an hours labour to change it. totalling £136

Does this sound about right?

Thanks

Im not well enough up on these things to know if it should have shown but it could haver failed as you left, unlikely I agree but possible. Seems the dealer has been reosnable & if £136 cures all the hassle you have been having it seems a pretty good result, fingers crossed it does

Cars should not I believe come out of limp mode but my Nissan does & no one can explain why, glad theres at least 2 of us disprooving the theory

Ive never had one come out of safe mode, first for me too.

Im looking at the milltek dpf replacement once it comes back. Im going to be driving around europe soon and do not want to be stuck in safe mode in the middle of nowhere.

Ive heard talk that in the MOT soon cars with a dpf will be visually inspected to see if its still there, knocking the guts out of the old pipe will still look the same wheras a replacement downpipe wont. Worth you double checking this before you part with your hard earned. Shark Performance & Jabba are 2 of the tuners who may be able to advise you & both can certainly do an excelent job of the remap that will be needed

Just had my exhaust pressure sensor replaced under warranty and the figure's about right, but obviously I didn't pay but the figure was about that on the invoice to SUK.

if you do decide to remove the DPF then remember for the MOT from 2012 it maybe required to keep your car below the revised smoke levels for cars that had DPFs fitted from the factory. Unlike a cat you cannot simply swap it in/out as the engine map will need changing each time as well.

Make that 3.

Friend goes away for over 6months of year so I run his cars for him. He has a mk4 golf and I was giving it some welly up a hill and it went into limp mode, pulled onto hard shoulder and checked for any pipes then started it up and drove fine. That was probably 2years ago now and has been fine ever since. Nothing on a scan either!
