Octavia II O/S Wing mirror

Featured Replies

Well a pleasant trip to Yorkshire blighted by some g1t breaking off the O/S wing mirror overnight last night. On closer examination, electrics work, no damage to glass or housing. The damage is to the cast aluminium shaft that the mirror is supported on on the car. Does anyone know if the cast part is available as a separate entity and replaceable. The other thing is, is the cast part, part of the mirror or the bracket that is attached to the car.

Any help, as always, much appreciated.

I'm fairly sure that the mirror assembly is sold as a complete unit.

It is possible to buy replacement mirror glasses and I think that you might be able to get the plastic caps/housings too.

Either way the fact that the metal support has snapped means it is a complete assembly you need.

The good news is that often the most expensive bit is having it painted. If the colour coded housing is intact and the heated electric glass mirror is not cracked I would be tempted to buy a second hand mirror from a local scrapyard and simply swap over the colour coded plastic cap.

The whole thing bolts on to the door so from what you describe it should be a straight forward replacement.

A quick search on eBay revealed these but there are plenty to choose from:

Sorry to hear that. As said above, shouldn't be too difficult to get sorted.

You don't list what spec Octavia you have, but the Elegance & L&K models have puddle lights fitted to the bottom of the mirror, in addition to the indicator unit. So just make sure you order the right model.

Powered mirror ,with all the lights and heated glass was over £400 painted and fitted after a narrow road incident. emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Eh? That's mega steep!

The 'full spec' mirror (inc puddle light) can be had for circa £80, £20-30 for case painting, then a fairly simple fitting. OK, if you were taking it to a dealer they'd likely charge .5hr labour, but even so - that all together isn't £400.

What was your breakdown on that figure?

Wardy, it's a 2009 FL estate. Indicator in, but no puddle light. Having looked around, I need to find out the part number as there are several MK2 variants about. They are the larger ones as I know that there are two sizes! This is proabably the FL side of life.

Yep, the FL wing mirror is a completely different shape.

Far less second hand ones floating around either which could make a repair quite expensive.

Silver, I have found this one which looks right. Have entered my reg on Euro car parts and it comes up with an Octy 2010!!

That looks like the pre-FL wing mirror to me.

It's hard to tell when they aren't attached to the car for scale.

The best clue is the indicator / repeater, on the FL mirror is extends further along the base of the mirror like this...

You can see the difference in overall shape between the FL and pre-FL mirrors here...

Here is one at a good price...

See how the FL mirror is bigger and more rounded.

Indeed there is a massive difference. Unfortunately the cheaper of the two is passenger side, soooooo it looks like the red one. Cheers for that. A little confused as to why it's designated as a MK3.

Glad you've found one. Yeah, on the Mk3 issue I've seen quite a few places list items like that, when in fact it's a Mk2 facelift.

Had my electric folding and heated mirror bracket replaced, original glass and housing for £238. I think price of bracket on invoice was £153!!

Thankfully a breakers has come to the rescue. Local dealer wanted 97+vat for the aluminium bit that was broken, breaker supplied a full mirror and mount for just over half. Now I have to figure out how to swap over the colour coded fronts without snapping anything, and I have a spare glass, just in case.
