Stone chip already!

Featured Replies

Only done 600 miles in the car and I've already picked up a chip bigger than I've had on any other car I've owned. :(

I've called a few of the places like Chips-away etc and had quotes for about

I bought a three pen system from halfords only cost 10 pounds comes with a grey primer the colour of your car and a clear varnish, along with a little abrasive pad to wipe and lightly smooth/blend the paint in. It works really well, and believe me you will probebly have more chips to come before you do a thousound miles. the vRS seems attract them!

I had a wheel repaired by a mobile van repair service. I had a stone chip on the bonnet, he mixed some paint to match, from the paint code on the boot sticker, dropped paint in to chip with a cocktail stick, once it dried can hardly see it, gave me rest of paint. Lemon Yellow :)

Know how you feel, the first time I took my baby out I saw a stone fling off a lorry and slowly bounce towards my car... There was no getting away :(

The Faba vRS is a stone magnet. I get huge stones hit me what seems like every day. I dont even look at the bonnet any more, and I am totally surprised I havent had to fork out for a new windscreen yet...

Cant small chips in the screen be repaired? How much is a new windscreen?

Depends on your insurance policy. Some chips can be repaired, depending on thier position on the screen and the type of chip. Cost of a new screen will usually be in terms of an insurance excess -

Anyone tried leaving safe gap from vehicle ahead?

I know it's hard when you're on the m-way and it just wants to pull, you can't help trying to force people out of the way!

Fact is that in my experience leaving a 'safe' gap means you get gits cutting you up whilst pushing into that 'safe' gap, so it's actually less safe.

Noting here that you should keep a safe distance, for sure, and that I would highly recommend doing so when people behave like they should (i.e. first indicate, have a look, actually judge speed & gap size, before pushing across).

Yesterday I had a motorcyclist who kept trying to kill himself over my bonnet. Kept swiping in from the left, inches away from my front bumper. Then the guy in front pulled into the slow lane, at which point the motorcyclist increased his potential to die by accelerating like mad trying to get past 'undertaking style'.

Had he just waited I would have been gone (as he was only doing 60) and everyone would have been a lot safer ;)

Thanks for the help. Think I'll try it myself as I know more will come!

i always leave a safe gap and if the person behind is to close then i slow up so the gap they got behind me is legal

I find you have to drive at 5mph for the safe gap to be there if its a BMW behind you
