You'll get way better advice from the Supra IV owners' forum www.mkivsupra.net than I can remember, but auto to manual conversions have been done before.

Babs, thanks, but the F&TF car was kitted by AMT back in the day, and one of the Japanese model companies changed the shell from aerotop to coupe, and sold it as a Supra iv with body kit. I can't claim all the credit!

Been having a look around internet, the aftermarket manual dog leg gearbox they sell for the Supra that can handle 600bhp upwards, but has only been tested to 1100bhp lists the same part number for the manual as the automatic, and the conversion kit for auto to the aftermarket box it £128

wheres the manual conversion kit to the aftermarket box is only £89, i would guess there is an extra mount of the heavier autobox otherwise i reckon they have the same mounting point.

Cheers for all the interest and advice guys!

I used to work with a Supra specialist for a while. We bought Jap imports (mainly Supras) from the auctions at the Docks & converted them to UK spec for SVA tests before selling them. Did many miles in Aerotops & twin turbos. Most people seem to leave the tops on as they are a bit of a pain to get on & off & have to be stored somewhere when off. Imports are NOT much different to insure than UK spec cars in my experience. (I had a twin turbo hard top insured untill it was stolen). A lot of twin turbo manuals are converted to drift cars in Japan & arrive on our shores set up to be driven that way. I expect you're aware that the twins can blow head gaskets easily, sometimes through seized water pumps. If you buy an import please be aware that unscrupulous Japanese dealers can sell us their old rubbish. If you see signs of K Seal in the water or a new cap on the Header/Expansion tank, be extra careful! As an example, I've seen a twin turbo in standard form that had a seized water pump, blown head gasket, cracked block, blown turbo oil seal & a ECU fault!

I hope you find what you're looking for.
