Echo on handsfree sound

Featured Replies

I have had my Octavia VRS PD DSG from new for around 9 months and specced the factory bluetooth option had hoped to have good quality call clarity. I was not informed at the time that it wasn't compatible with my iPhone (now running a 4s) so Orange UK gave me an additional same number sim card which I use with an old Nokia handset in the car exclusively. However when I call people they complain of a horrible echo when they speak to me and this is not acceptable to some callers. I am keen to find out if this is a common problem with the kit, and/or any suggestions on things I could do to improve matters. I am not sure if it is the car kit or the handset I should focus on.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help.

I have to say that I've had people compliment the sound quality that the factory kit provides and as far as I'm aware, this is not a common issue. I beleive this is network related - your phone is not getting a complete connection to the network. I would do a full reset on the phone - somethimes this can give you a fresh registration on the network and can improve the quality of the call. Failing that just change the phone. Perhaps borrow a collegues / friends and pair it to see what happens.

Also one thing to watch is the volume - if its too high it can cause feedback on the system.

Incidentally not sure why your 4S isn't compatible unless you have an RSAP only kit in the car. If thats the case why not just buy a non-RSAP module from Ebay and swap it over. I doubt there would be any coding involved and it would enable you to utilise you nice new 4S :-)

Good luck

My guess is that it is the handset at fault. Are you able to try a different handset?

Turn the volume right down on the stereo so you can't hear the other person, then try speaking and see if the echo goes away.

Thanks guys. Just to confirm I do have the rsap only kit. Seems a bit wrong to have to butcher it to make it fit the iPhone, but hey ho. I will see if I can get hold of another handset before I go down that route. Thanks one and all for your thoughts,

I have the same echo issue with my factory fit kit. When using the phone at motorway speeds, I often have the volume reasonably high due to the amount of road noise, so cannot turn it down to far to stop an echo. A few questions,

Are others using rsap connection or normal bluetooth to avoid the echo?

Also, I thought rsap took over the sim card, so how does the quality of the handset affect the echo?

Lastly, Mainey, does the dual sim card solution work well, other than the sound quality? This may let me upgrade away from Nokia.

Neilvrs;

Yes the dual sim solutions works reasonably elegantly for me. Orange provide the sim card for a small monthly charge and I agreed with them which phone was the 'primary handset' (my second phone) which I only switch on when in the car and when any incoming calls are received they are routed through the handsfree. Only issue is if I forget to switch off the handset when I get out the car and then get lonely because no-one is calling me only to return to the car and find loads of missed calls!

Apart from the echo it works well, I love my iPhone otherwise might have considered another handset to avoid the duplication.

Cheers

Ian
