First go with Chemical Guys Blacklight

Featured Replies

Mrs P was away this weekend so I thought I'd give the Octavia a bit of a pre winter detail. Now I know this isn't going to be the best product choice for longevity over winter - it's not Zaino / Colinite yada yada, but it's the last chance to try it this year and I've been wanting to try it since I got it for my birthday in June.

I Iron-X'd, clayed and preceded the Black Light with a base of SRP. I topped it off with a couple of rounds of Megs UQD. While I was at it, I AG FG'd and IPA'd the glass followed by Halfords rain repellent. I also Iron'X'd the wheels, which is an incredibly effective thing to do. I still maintain SRP is the coolest hand applied detailing product, for how cheap it is, how easy to get hold of it is, how incredibly effective it is and how fool proof it it is to use. I still love the UQD too, but I must admit I got a bit trigger happy with it today and had to go around the car a second time at the end of the process to remove a bit of speckly haziness that came up in some areas.

The Black Light smells lovely (unlike the Iron-X :) ). I think it was about 14C today, so ideal for detailing. The product went on and buffed off after 15 mins very easily. Much like Jet Seal in use.

I'm extremely skeptical about the way people describe the optical properties of LSPs, so I won't go down that route. I'll just say I was very happy with the finish and I think the paint felt appreciably slicker to the touch than with just the SRP (which if you haven't used it, does already make surface feel extremely slick compared to when it's just freshly clayed).

I only had time to take one quick pic as I was up against it time wise before I lost the light.

Looks good..Ive read good things about this stuff

Great finish, looks like an advert shot for Black Light... :)

Looks stunning - thanks for the mini review!!!

It looks good but doesnt give any decent protection, if you want both then Wolfs body wrap aint too bad.

May well try that next year.

Black light is very good in terms of how it makes the car look in terms of protection and beading it doesn't seem to last that long so I've put a couple of coats of fk pink paste wax on top so now it's ready for winter.

1 week update - Washed the car. People are right when they say this isn't a great beader. It sheeted off reasonably well such that there wasn't much to dry with the towel, but I've seen better. That said, when it was dry I saw the car in some nice "golden hour" light and it did look absolutely stunning. The "radiant" in the product tag line is quite an apt description for how it looks - it's so glossy it almost looks like it's got a glowing aura. Damn, I've fallen into that trap of wild, subjective descriptions of an LSP.

I might whack some Jetseal or something over the top next weekend if I get time.

Bought it last May,

Gave my white vRS a coat of CG P40 to clean it up and prep it.

Gave it two coats of Blacklight as per instructions.

Put it back on the shelf and that is where it stayed emoticon-0149-no.gif
